On Jan. 1, 1981, the minimum wage went from $3.10 to $3.35.
19 days later, Republican Ronald Reagan took office.
The minimum wage stayed at $3.35 for almost 10 years.
April 1, 1990, the minimum wage was finally raised a small amount.
It went from $3.35 to $3.80.
~~~~
Fast-forward to 2026ā¦.and the rate is $7.25.
Thatās an increase of $3.90 in 45 years.
45 YEARS!!
Rent, food, health care, tuition and everything else has gone up.
WAY UP.
We need a Living Wage NOW!
The last time the minimum wage was raised was 2009. That's when it became $7.25.
Barack Obama was president, and Democrats had a majority in both houses of Congress.
The "Fight for $15" started around 2015 with demand that the minimum wage be raised to $15 an hour. Hillary Clinton proposed raising it to $12 an hour (from $7.25), but leftist voters decided that wasn't good enough and stayed home or voted third party.
And that's why the minimum wage is still $7.25 ten years later.
That's because it wasn't good enough. It's surely not an unrealistic expectation that Dems would do better especially when they have the majority in both houses plus the presidency.
But instead of understanding that they must do better, and that voters are sending them a clear message to do better when they stay home or vote third party, Dems sulk in the corner, and establishment voters like yourself allow them to.
Yes, it's certainly not part of the 20-year plan the Republicans have been executing.
And I'm sure the fact the Republicans have been actively working with Russia since at least 2015 has nothing to do with it.
Plus the massive election interference in 2024.
But sure. The problem is the Democrats, because Murc's Law is inviolable.
By the way, I was planning to link you to the Wikipedia article explaining exactly what Murc's Law is, but someone deleted it as of March 26, 2026. Which is really, truly fascinating to me, especially since I was literally there when it was created and discussed on the Lawyers, Guns & Money blog. Truly bizarre to watch history I was at the creation of being erased in real time.
But sure, only Democrats have agency, Republicans have no agency, if the Republicans cheat, it's the Democrats' fault. You've got it down pat at this point.
Me the first half of The Backrooms: "oh I get it. He's a down on his luck failed architect and even more failed furniture store owner who's trying to better himself. He'll probably be fascinated with the furniture/architecture of the backrooms and start selling the items there for money + notoriety. And eventually he'll go deeper and deeper to get more and more items until he gets trapped and encounters The Horrors. A classic tale of hubris :) "
Me the second half of the backrooms:
Lmao I just went to the TV Tropes page for Obsession and I love this bit of trivia
āHey man, your main character isnāt sympathetic enough, could you fix that?ā
āOkay sure, Iāll make him MORE unsympathetic since you idiots missed the pointā
backrooms spoilers with no context:
my favourite part of Backrooms was when Phil showed Mary a photo of Clark on the cameras and you could see the big fuckass censor square over the Pirate
whatever i'll crosspost this one
So, thanks to a good health day, I was able to see the Backrooms movie! And while my sibling took away a more anti-AI message from it, I ended up thinking a lot more on the themes of misogyny and the psychology behind it, so I'm putting my thoughts here
Spoilers for the movie below the cut!
Dude I donāt care if Sarah is a pick-me girl and a bad friend, I wouldnāt wish Bear on her. Thatās another thing I donāt understand about what Iām hearing and seeing from audiences that saw Obsession š
The āif only heād given Sarah a chanceā and āSarah could fix himā makes me nauseous. The entire movie is about this entitled coward using a woman as a way of feeding his ego and filling the empty void of his life to her severe detriment. And you would allow another woman to be sacrificed to sustain him?
First time watching Obsession 2026 (dir. Curry Barker) moodboard
**Major Spoilers for Obsession (2026)**
I think the thing that is the most disturbing to me about Obsession is just how quickly it becomes totally clear that Bear not only never loved Nikki, but that he never even liked her.
*Minor Spoilers for Obsession 2026*
So I did go see Obsession again last night and made sure to pay extra attention to Bearās little opening monologue when heās practicing his love confession to Nikki.
So You Watched Obsession And Want To Mainline Curry Barker's Short Horror:
wonderful news!! curry barker is one of my favorite (if not my favorite, hands down) short horror directors. as someone who has watched hundreds and hundreds of short horror films on youtube.
here are five of his films with the runtime and a quick summary of each. (sorry if i miss any, these are what i remember off the top of my head!) i've avoided spoilers beyond the basic premise, but every single one of these deals with Absolutely Haunting Thematic Shit:
-
THE CHAIR - 25 minutes
when horror connoisseurs hear "curry barker," they usually think of the chair first. barker was approached to make this into a full-length film & pitched obsession instead... GREAT choice, as i don't think the chair would Work with extra runtime.
a man finds an old chair on the side of the road and brings it home to his girlfriend. strange events begin to unfold -- his girlfriend's behavior becomes increasingly erratic, he's losing time, he's unraveling at the seams....
if you enjoyed the fucked-up relationship dynamics in obsession then you will probably have a good time.
-
MILK & SERIAL - 62 minutes
barker's other best-known horror film. a twisty found footage thriller about youtube pranksters whose pranks Go Wrong (TM).
i can't say much more than that.... if you watched obsession and thought "pretty good, but pretty predictable. i wonder how curry barker would handle a psychological thriller with more plot twists??"
boy, does this film have an answer!!
-
ENIGMA - 20 minutes
this is a psychological thriller about a man dealing with the impending end of the world. explores how other people are also dealing with the end of the world.
i fear i'll give a skewed impression if i say this one is sort of a feel-good film..... but OF the films on this list, it's Certainly the most optimistic. my partner rafi (who really hates depressing horror) watched it with me and concluded, "oh, that was kind of sweet, actually!!"
this one's great if you want a palate cleanser after The Unrelenting Gutwrenching Horror of obsession.
-
WARNINGS - 20 minutes
my personal favorite!! criminally underrated!! upsetting in a way that stuck to my skin for days!!
a man starts receiving strange written warnings on halloween. things around him begin to unravel.
similar to the chair in its unsettling surreality, but with a bit more supernatural influence imo. you'll recognize a lot of parallel imagery to obsession, especially with Strange Movement and Nightmare Experiences.
-
HEAVY EYES - 5 minutes
the shortest one on this list if you just want to dip your toes in real quick... a pretty easy time investment if you've never watched short horror and aren't sure if you'll like it!
a boy's mom comes home unexpectedly at night.
the only problem?? she's still texting him from the hospital where she works.
this one is both scary and ended up Way More Haunting than i thought a 5-minute short could. even thinking about it makes my stomach kind of hurt.
I genuinely appreciate how obsession doesn't try to frame bear as morally grey but just fully leans into how deplorable he is. a lesser movie would have tried to give him redeeming moments along the way but no, at every single crossroads bear makes the wrong choice. when the customer service rep asks him if he wants to cancel his wish, he says no, and asks to alter it. when nikki, the real one, begs him to kill her, he asks her "if it would be so bad to love him", and right at the end, backs out of killing himself and tries to throw the pills up. he is the villain, not another victim, not a confused, cowardly boy, the villain.
