Working on the background for a Tongan 🇹🇴 logo commission and if you look closely, you may notice some missteps… The thing that a lot of people don’t realize about Polynesian designs (even many islanders themselves don’t realize) is that every island has its own flavor, it’s own beat and style. As an artist, I try to tap into the mana of the island I’m working on and channel that in my work but it takes time and a lot of effort, like switching visual languages.
