My fave poem in this book is Obvs "B" as i have quoted it so many times over the years... (Imagining my daughters)đIt's a poem about how the author will through a beautiful relationship with her possible daughters be referred to by HER as "Point B"! I have been reading this book again and have discovered that with each season I find another poem I obsess about. I'm obsessed with it. #sarahkay #getcaughtreading #books #poetry
No Matter The WreckageâŚ
The first time i read this book, was in college and i was drawn to the story. I was confused by the story too. The second time I read this book was when I was planning my wedding, nervous, wondering if we know what we are getting ourselves into. I felt i understood the book better but really i just realized i get it better now that i just read it a third time. If you want to read it once and get it with my third time a charm understanding ken here we go: "The Alchemistâ is about taking the risk of following your dreams, an actually difficult thing to do. There are very few people in this world who actually do, I mean risk it all, just to follow our hearts and our dream. Beauty is, the author is so right in saying that when we decide to follow our dreams the entire universe conspires in our favour which he refers to as the âbeginners luckâ. We have all, at one point in our lives bore witness to this beginners luck, Paulo Coelho talks about a stage in our journey towards realizing our dreams, where everything just goes haywire, everything seems to be working against us and brings us to the brink of abandoning everything to get back to what was is familiar and comfortable (i.e. our usual daily life which we get used to). His believe is that this is actually a point we are being tested for one last time, meaning we are really close to our objective. The example given is really great and yes nothing new but we forget simple things in our life like "the darkest hour of the night is just before the dawn". How true that so many of us just leave the struggle when it gets really tough and the chips are really low, whereas actually we were so close to the objective, had we had a little more patience we would have been there. He talks about death, yes the fact we always forget is the only reality about our life, is that the only certain thing is death. We always expect it will happen to others and we get so busy running after materials things that we never pause to realize life is happening, we donât have time to think about anything, let alone death. Those who do think about death, mostly fear it, some fear death because of the physical pain attached to it (such people actually fear the pain rather than the death). Some of us believe it's not our time yet, this decision about timings has thankfully not been left to us. In the end the boy in the story who was searching for his treasure, despite the long travels and experiences, find his treasure not in the place where he suspected it to be, but in the place where he came from. It's just pretty ironic that what we go looking for is in the end just beside us right from the beginning. The boy learned and discovered from his travel that the real treasure is in appreciating himself and the things around him. A very inspiring and positive book, that gives me hope that the things I aspire for will come if I strive hard and don't lose hope, the detours and problems we face now later make sense and when we look back at certain moments we understand how they brought us back to where we are NOW.

Protective Styles Myth
source: NaturallyCurly.com There has been a long standing myth among the natural hair community that the only way to grow long healthy hair is to use protective hairstyles. For those new to the natural hair community, protective styling involves putting your hair into a style that involves tucking your ends away from the atmosphere to protect them from damage whilst your hair grows. The premise is that if the ends of your hair donât break and your hair continues to grow, then you will achieve longer hair. This myth is so deeply entrenched in the natural hair community that women will often do back to back protective style for upwards of a year to reach their hair goals. Now donât get me wrong, there are plenty of women who have achieved amazing lengths from protective styling, but there are a few women who never yield results from all their efforts. Some of the problems that many women experience are: TANGLING from hair being untouched for long periods of time. This especially occurs in styles that take so long to put in that the mere thought of taking them down after only a few days seems like a waste. Thus, those women decide to leave in those styles for weeks.DRYNESS from hair that is left untouched and uncared for for too longBREAKAGE from over manipulating the hair to create elaborate hairstylesConfronting the Myth Contrary to popular belief, protective styling is not necessary for speedy hair growth. Instead low manipulation styles are key. Low manipulation styles, unlike protective hairstyles, do not require that your hair and ends be tucked away for protection. Instead it works on the premise that if you do simple styles and manipulate your hair as little as possible, then you will not do unnecessary damage to your hair and will retain length. These styles are better because: EASIER to install. - Styles like wash-and-gos and twist/ braid outs are far less taxing on the hair than installing mini twists, extension braids etc. By manipulating the hair less for styling, you minimize the damage to your hair. Before installing a protective style, think about whether the manipulation to install it will cause more damage to your hair than if you just styled it regularly and if its purpose is defeated. EASIER to maintain the hair. - The problem with a lot of protective hairstyles is that once installed, women tend to forget that they still have to maintain the hair, especially when it is hidden under wigs or entwined in braids. Also, if the hair is hard to get at, or moisturizing it will ruin the style, many women will opt for style over healthy hair. Low manipulation styles, however, usually do not require that the hair be bound in intricate styles making the hair easier to access.MORE FLEXIBLE - The main gripe with protective styles is that the can become boring after a while. Having your hair in a style for weeks at a time can be a major problem for many of us curlies as most of us suffer from serious cases of hand in hair syndrome. Low manipulation styles however, give curlies the opportunity to vary their styles and avoid becoming bored.Low Manipulation Styles to Try Instead of focusing on the usual protective hairstyles like twists, weaves and wigs, why not try these following styles to reduce manipulation, make accessing and caring for your hair easy and retain length? WASH-AND-GOS: This style can be done several ways, but the most basic way to accomplish this style is to wash and condition your hair and detangle it thoroughly before styling. Once done, a moisturizing conditioner or leave-in or moisturizer can be used depending on your preference. A styler or gel can be layered on top for added hold if necessary. To ensure that you keep your hair healthy while it is styled, make sure you moisturize your hair as much as it needs it.TWIST/BRAID OUTS: This style can be done on freshly cleansed hair or dry hair that has been stretched for added length and volume. After moisturizing, apply your styler of choice and separate your hair into sections and twist or braid it. For added interest, you could put the ends of your hair or the entire length itself on rollers. Once your hair is completely dry, or after some time has passed, unravel and separate the twists gently to hide the parts and increase the volume. The best part about these styles is that you do not need to rewet your hair to restyle. To make the hair pliable enough to detangle, you can either spray it with water or add a good detangling product, then add a styler if necessary and restyle. Also, to maintain your hair's health, make sure you moisturize and seal your hair, especially at the ends.Do You I know this information may seem confusing and contradictory, especially since this article seems to suggest that all hairstyles are created equally, but if itâs been said once itâs been said many times: you have to do what's best for your hair. This article merely covers suggestions for an alternative way to maintain your hairâs health if traditional protective styling does not work. Also, please note that a hairstyle itself will not guarantee your hair's health. It must also be in conjunction with good hair care practices, plenty of moisturizing, a standing appointment for good deep conditioning, reduced usage of combs and brushes and minimizing the number of times you style your hair.
I'm always saying to anyone willing to listenđ! This... NoW is ya life boo! It's not waiting for ya to find that great job, afford to globe trot, find that great man to love you, have that baby or find that big break that you think will make you happy... right. now your life is happening, you either live it or wait it out for something that may never come. Love your life now and didn't someone say "life is what happens while you are busy making other plans"? #HappySunday #Chooselife #Behappy #live
My baby girl Nala is a few days to turning 6 months and I have fought so hard to keep exclusively breast-feeding her until she is completely ready for solids. I went back to my 9-5 job in April and have had to "lean in" and take a seat at the table at work. I will not lie this has been a struggle and I have been tempted so much to just put baby girl on formula and only breast-feed her in the evenings... tempted but I decided i will have to make it work until she is ready for solids. I have had to give 150% at work (for some reason after martenity leave, you feel like you have to prove yourself again in your job) and still be fully present at home. I'm still figuring it out, don't we just wish there was a manual? Do I bust ass at work, get a calendar to schedule home and work, and place the burden of childcare on the nanny? So, while I can see myself running board meetings and accepting Time's Person of the Year award, I struggle with the reality of life with two parents working, The chaos! I am emphatically not a fan of chaos, I crave order and I am still struggling with delegating baby duties to my nanny. I bath my kids every morning with the help of their father most days, i decide what they eat when, what they'll wear and when they will nap. I am starting to find my balance and things will be easier now that i won't have to be running home to breast-feed during lunch, pumping milk morning and evening as Nala will be on solids too. Point is this milestone is significant and it was important to me to feel i have given her more than adequate attention. I am no closer to figuring out how it will all work out but it actually does without a plan. The most common question/comment that i get here is "how do you do it", "you make me want to have kids, seems so easy"Ha! I laugh, it is all so chaotic, I'm literally winging it ya'll but you know what? It works because I believe I was ready for this chapter of my life, I remember that i obsessively prayed for this life and i let it fuel me.  I make sure to turn what may seem ordinary into an extraordinary life with this family. I give gratitude and that reminds me i am privileged and that my friends makes me happyđđ
Theyâll call me âPoint B.â Because that way, they know that no matter what happens, at least they can always find their way to me. Theyâll learn that this life will hit you, hard, in the face, wait for you to get back up so it can kick you in the stomach. But getting the wind knocked out of you is the only way to remind your lungs how much they like the taste of air. There is hurt, here, that cannot be fixed by band-aids or poetry, so the first time she realizes that Wonder-woman isnât coming, Iâll make sure she knows she doesnât have to wear the cape all by herself. Because no matter how wide you stretch your fingers, your hands will always be too small to catch all the pain you want to heal. Believe me, Iâve tried. And âBaby,â Iâll tell her âdonât keep your nose up in the air like that, I know that trick, youâre just smelling for smoke so you can follow the trail back to a burning house so you can find the boy who lost everything in the fire to see if you can save him. Or find the boy who lit the fire in the first place to see if you can change himâŚBut I know that she will anyway, so instead Iâll always keep an extra supply of chocolate and rain boots nearby, because rain will wash away everything if you let it. I want her to see the world through the underside of a glass bottom boat, to look through a magnifying glass at the galaxies that exist on the pin point of a human mind. Iâll teach them that thereâll be days like this, days like this when you open your hands to catch and wind up with only blisters and bruises. When you step out of the phone booth and try to fly and the very people you wanna save are the ones standing on your cape. When your boots will fill with rain and youâll be up to your knees in disappointment and those are the very days you have all the more reason to say âthank you,â âcause there is nothing more beautiful than the way the ocean refuses to stop kissing the shoreline no matter how many times itâs sent away. you will put the âstarâ in starting over and over, when they hand you heartbreak, slip hatred and war under your doorstep and hand you hand-outs of cynicism and defeat, you tell them they really ought to meet your mother!

Long weekend hair loading! ... loading... loading! mama's little helper is busy making sure i follow directions for the perfect outcome đ one of my go to products from @designessentialssa âťâťâť #DEhair #Africanhair #naturalhair #twistout #haircare
Because I'm the laziest person i never retwist my hair in between wash days and I'm thankful my twistouts last for days! I sleep in a Satin bonnet and try to refresh the style every morning. Anyhu here is my routine as promised Massaged my hair and scalp using the Jamaican Black castor oil the previous night and left it in overnight. 2. Next Morning I Cleansed my hair and scalp with the @darkandlovelyafrica #AuNaturale Moisture-replenishing Shampoo 3. Applied the Au Naturale Anti-Shrinkage Conditioner (I normally put a very generous amount of this as my hair is so thick and seems to absorb the whole bottle) and slowly detangle my hair using my fingers (you can comb but I generally avoid combing my hair) then put a plastic cap on, leaving the conditioner in for 30 mns and rinsed and dried using a dry cotton tshirt. 4. Sectioned my hair into 4 parts (because I follow the next steps 1 section at a time⌠just for manageability) 5. Applied a small amount of Leave in conditioner 1 section of hair ( I swear by the @cantubeauty.africa Shea Butter Leave-In Conditioning Repair because well⌠Itâs amazing and a little goes a long way.) 6. Applied the @_mynatural_hair strengthening oil to the same section of hair. Love this oil because it is so light, has avocado, olive, castor oils. 7. Followed with the #AuNaturale Anti-Breakage Hair Butter to infuse moisture 8. I then lastly apply a small amount of the #AuNaturale plaiting pudding cream for hydration. 9. Make sure these are evenly distributed in the section of hair you are working on- root to tip. 10. I then take small parts of hair and start twisting, depending on the size of twist outs I want to achieve. 11. Repeat throughout sections until all hair is twisted 12. I normally then just leave the twists till the next day to allow hair to completely dry, then I separate the twists. Hope this helps the naturalists that have been asking how I do it. #darkandlovelyafrica #mycurlmycantu #Mynaturalhair #naturalista #southafricannaturals #africanhair #Afro #washroutine
I have been getting a lot of questions about my hair care routine. I started my natural hair journey 8 months ago and i have since discovered many ways of taking care of natural hair. I will give a step by step of the one i discovered works for me.
I wash my hair once (twice if necessary) a week. I follow this routine once every 2 weeks and follow a quicker one weekly. I use Hask and Cantu products available at selected Clicks stores.
Step 1: Pre-poo. I apply the Hask hot oil treatment (coconut or argan oil) for 20 minutes then rinse my hair.
Step 2: I shampoo with the #Cantu Cleansing Cream Shampoo and slowly detangle my hair (this is important as i naver comb my hair).
Step 3: I then section my hair into 4 parts and distribute the Hask Deep conditioner from roots to tips (I alternate between Keratin, Coconut oil and Argan Oil). I then put a clear plastic wrap on my head and stay with the conditioner for 15 minutes, then rinse it off.
Step 4: To towel dry my hair i use a cotton tshirt (tip i got from another natural hair enthusiast), Spray the #Mizani Miracle Milk as my leave in then apply the #Cantu Tea Tree and Jojoba oil to my hair.
While we may not all have the same hair texture and your hair is uniquely yours, this routine is sure to give you a healthy, soft and manageable Afrođ.

1. When a boy who leaves goosebumps on every inch of your skin tries to play you his favorite song, donât let him. Heâll get it stuck in your head and under your fingertips and when he leaves, you wonât be able to listen to it without feeling like youâre choking. 2. Donât let him touch you all over no matter how much you want to feel him against you. Leave a few spots untouched so that when youâre sleeping alone again, at least your left wrist and an inch of your right hip wonât sting with the remaining burn of his mouth. 3. Donât let him break your ribs. 4. Donât watch the sunset with him. Heâll poison it. You wonât be able to look at the sky without swallowing a mouthful of him. 5. Donât mistake wasps for butterflies. Sometimes when you feel your stomach flutter and your hands start to shake itâs pain, not love. 6. Just because he tells you he loves you doesnât mean heâs going to stay. 7. Itâs okay to delete his number after he kisses the pretty girl he met when he was drunk. Itâs okay to leave when he hurts you. You donât have to keep falling into him. 8. When he tells you that youâre beautiful, try to remember that you were beautiful before him too. 9. Just because he reads and smokes cigarettes and talks about the stars doesnât mean heâs your soulmate. 10. After you kiss him, remember to wash your mouth out right away so he doesnât burn into your tongue. 11. Heâll kiss you in the rain and take you to little coffee shops. Heâll brush your hair out of your eyes and kiss your nose. Heâll grab your waist and whisper in your ear but six months later youâll find yourself drunk texting him that you miss him and he wonât respond. 12. Your heart is going to break a million times. Itâs going to feel like the world is falling apart around you. Your lungs will stop working some nights. You find yourself grabbing at your bones trying to hold yourself together. Youâre going to feel like youâre dying. Itâs going to be okay. Youâll find someone else to kiss you goodnight.
