“Don’t you worry, my platform-shoe’d friend! I’ve got your back!

“Step one: You go buy some candy! Obviously, the more expensive stuff is better, but in this economy, who knows? Step two: You gotta find someone you care about! Maybe you’re crushin’, maybe you’re besties, doesn’t really matter! Step three: Give ‘em the goods! Tell ‘em, hey, I like you! Here’s some candy that lets you know!”

“Then you kinda gauge the mood a bit, because step four is a doozy. If the mood is right, you gotta do step four: Give ‘em a smooch. Can’t have a Valentine’s without some smoochin’.

“Aaaaaand that’s how it’s done! Too bad Valentine’s day was yesterday.”

Waka takes in all of Makoto’s words, narrowing his eyes as she speaks. He nods as if he understands, rubbing at his chin, eyes closed now. 

“My father would have very much liked if I married sensibly, but I confess to being a romantic at heart. Were I to have a spouse, it would be someone who I could tell a story of how we fell in love, and not for political gain.”

A laugh!

“One too many trips to the opera, I suppose.”

“I don’t believe there’s anything wrong with that.”

“After all, far too many people in this world are forced into unions with no love behind them. It seems rather tragic...I really cannot blame you for wishing to fall for someone, to be able to tell your story, Ferdinand.”

     “It’s not that, no. I’d love to fall in love and have a love that rivals      my parents own ones.”

     “But right now, I have other things I’m focusing on.”

“Some healthy competition then? I can’t disagree with something like that.”

❤ “It’s short for ‘random’ apparently! As in I don’t want to date a bunch of random girls or guys hoping I’ll find the right one.”

“Ah, I see. I’m afraid sometimes I don’t understand the type of speak the dwellers of this city use.”

  There’s a silence that takes hold of him, if only briefly, to take in the compliment delivered onto him. Something he had pride in himself for; an eye for the arts and a critical gaze when necessary. To hear someone offer confirmation to that did well in setting a warmth within his chest. Yusuke could offer nothing more than a smile for the remaining seconds that passed before finding his voice again.

    “It is a trait I’ve aimed for artistically for years, I would be sorely disappointed if I were to overlook it.”

    “I’d wager you’ve an eye for it yourself given you were drawn to it as well.” Not drawn to it nearly as strongly – at least not so verbally – as Yusuke himself, but drawn nonetheless. However, now that the teens vision was successfully averted from the structure at hand a better look could be had at the stranger he spoke with. A rather flashy coloration of attire, easy to draw attention (if not already lead somewhere else) and emphasizing something distinct.

    “Forgive me if I’m out of line, but are you adorned for the festivities? Such a display is quite lively, yet oddly fitting for the presence you give.”

Waka continues to smile, enjoying this simple conversation he’s having with this young man. The idea that someone would have made the effort to learn about beauty, to learn to be able to spot it was highly admirable to him. He sticks his hand into his opposite sleeve, holding them together as he tilts his head to the side, taking in the boys words and his looks.

He seemed simple enough, in odd clothes the sort of which he’d seen other people in this city were, but which were still very foreign to him. He wondered if he could find someone to show him this type of fashion.

“You’re right about that. I do pride myself on my eye for beauty.”

“—oh. Well.”

You almost want to say it’s a holiday celebrated nearly everywhere, before you remember that the different universes that congregate here defy numbering. “Valentine’s Day is a time couples take out of the year to show their appreciation for each other, generally. Some people use it to confess their feelings to people they might be after too, if they’re brave enough to spit it out.”

“Personally, I think if you love someone you don’t need a single day to do it. It just oughta be a constant, y’know?”

Waka rubs at his chin as he tilts his head to the side, pondering this idea that the woman had presented to him. He thinks it sounds rather lovely, like something he would gladly celebrate, were any of his friends here. He doesn’t have a significant other, either. Ah well, no sense in dwelling on it.

“I see. How lovely. I suppose for some it may be difficult to do this things without a reason, non?”
