Rewatched Fincher's ZODIAC 2007 for the first time since tech screening it almost 20 years ago. ZODIAC, like Kubrick's THE SHINING [which is another film I've tech screened] is a film where you can pause on any frame, blow it up and put it in any Art Gallery and draw a crowd. Fucking perfect. The Greens, Yellows and Browns give that autumn-ie bleak look similar to PRISONERS.
You just know studio execs would have been begging for a car chase or a shoot out scene after a couple hours of business scenes and you know Fincher would have said go fuck yourself, the most action you're getting is Gyllenhaal walking into a basement to look at movie posters and you're gonna be shaking in your boots.
