Contreversial thought of Minajael.....
He's hot but already his story is meh.
Listen, ladies, I get it, I REALLY do.
BUT at least for me it's gonna take more than "oh, he doesnt want to be stuck with the traditions of royal life and it's hard to be rich and come with responsibilities".....
I dont see that as a valuable character or trope compared to let's say Jamil who can and HAS to take on a lot of responsibilities, but just isnt given the rightful acknowledgement or respect.
Or even Leona, who is ALSO a non-traditional or proper acting prince, but whose existence was kind of shunned from his own people from the beginning and caused him to build up social walls and lose drive because of depression when he can be a worthy leader.
And if we're really wanna go for the "trapped in a proper, high-maintainance life that they felt suffocated"......uh, Im sorry, are we gonna forget about Riddle and leave him alone with his highstrung mother?
Here's the thing, Its clearly more than just being non traditional for him. Like Leona he's forced into a role, as we see by his reaction to being called Highness. He HATES it. The expressions on Minajael say far more than his words.
When he speaks the language and words tell of a young man who has left the palace to try to gain some semblance of independence, much like Jamil and Leona. He and Jamil are foils in various ways. We get to see this in their interactions.
We're told, unlike Kalim, Leona or even Jamil, his future is pretty much being directed by the people around him. He's being told who he has to marry. And by that extention, if you know anything about how monarchy in the past works, it means he's a pawn of power.
Dude probably has it just as bad as Leona or even Jamil in regard of wanting to be himself. He outright says he keeps running away to escape the bullshit that hes probably dealing with, and why he went to RSA to avoid being a royal. Same with Leona and Jamil, they left to get away. Difference is Kalim followed Jamil, no one followed Minajael so it gives him a bit more freedom.
Hell, if he's a only child like Jasmine seems to be, then its even more pressure on him as heir to keep traditional values and all the responsibility, which -we dont hear of parents only grandpa, could link him to Malleus and all the troubles that he has as heir.
So while I see where you're coming from, I think we have to give the characters time to show off and be given more story, which i think we will during this Book.
Also, please at least watch the clips of the new characters, just to get a view of the visuals to see reactions in Minajael's face and his expressions at what Jamil says. It says a lot about him and his feelings.
I agree, Im not saying he is necessarily a bad character, but I say, so far, not as impactful as what we have seen. Hopefully, with more clips, there is more material to it.
I would however like to add there is a massive difference already with Leona. While they are both forced to live in a royal life, the problem is that Leona is ignored as a second-born, he is being forced into taking responsibility, despite his people already want to turn him away. Which is already different from Minajael.
But that is the interesting part of it to me, the similarity of Leona and Jamil and why occassionally these 2 can see eye to eye. Both force into a position that they dont want yet, good at it, but underappreciated, so they are both stuck in a position where they think nothing will make anyone happy.
Personal opinion though, the concept of RSA so far, not so great. Most of it comes of as predictable.
