Serena had been thankful to have Anna around after everything that happened with her sister. It was nice to have a friend who knew her and her family. She was really doing this whole thing by herself but it was easier with a friend like Anna around. They had grown up knowing each other then went to college in the same area. Serena had found a babysitter for the night so she could actually go out. Something she didn’t realize how much she would miss when she took Lydia into her care. Meeting her friend at a restaurant in town she was more than excited to actually have an adult conversation. Spotting Anna from across the restaurant she headed over. “Hey.” She said with a smile.
Lifelong friends? They were pretty easy to come by in a world like Anna’s. After all, when everything was about connection it was so easy to call back on old memories....maybe even some blackmail material to feast upon. However, it was the genuine friendships that were much harder to come by. For much the same reasons. So she couldn’t quite believe her luck when she got both in Serena. She spotted the other woman second, a familiar grin spreading over her lips as she waved her friend over before taking a sip of her wine glass. “I know, I know, I started without you but....would you believe me if I said thinking about this dinner - this wine - is the only thing that kept me going passed lunch?” She had the decency to at least sound sheepish as Serena sat down. “Hey,” She greeted once her excuses were done, clearly just as eager for the catch up as the other woman.

“believe me, if i had any ideas on how to locate said bandit, i would be all over it.” felicity offered with a small laugh, her eyes rolling slightly. “unfortunately i can’t quite start knocking on doors just yet.” she paused, the spark of an idea igniting inside of her, as evident in the way that her eyes too seemed to light up. “do you think i can convince some of the tenants that work at the district to do it for me? or is that a total abuse of power?”
“Total abuse of power,” Anna confirmed with a short nod. She paused as she pursed her lips, tilting her head to the side and then continued on with a light tone, “But that’s not to say that I’m completely opposed.” She grew up in the heartland of politics, she’d learnt early on there was always a good way to spin things. Most things anyway. She and Felicity just had to find the right spin. “We could say it’s for witnesses of sorts, concerned residents who can let us know if they’ve seen anything.” Best case scenario the bandit just attempted it outright at the implied threat of police involvement, and worst case maybe a few residents actually did see something. “It’s vandalism, right? That’s a crime.” It wouldn’t be completely unjustified.
“i brought you a coffee. figured you could use it, plus i could use getting out of the station for a little while.” elena laughed handing over the latte to the blonde and smiling, looking around the bank. “how’s everything going today? it was busy earlier when i dropped by huh? i needed to drop off something for jamie’s camp and there was a long line.”
From the moment that she saw her friend approaching with a coffee cup in hand, the crease in Anna’s brow had disappeared and her frown had been replaced by a growing smile. “You are a lifesaver!” She said, the sigh of obvious relief following her words as she gratefully took the coffee cup from Elena. “Quite literally, thank you,” She was quick to add after a sip. After all the other woman was saving more lives than she was sitting at her desk pouring over potential stocks. “I think this is the first time I’ve been off my phone all day.” If it wasn’t a client on the line then she was having a half hour conversation with the sales team, and surely that all but confirmed Elena’s thinking. “You should have called, I could have sorted it.” She knew that her friend had better things to do that wait around for a a free teller. She could have made five minutes of time to help her out.
“no, i have not yet found out who the bathroom bandit is, and if you’re here to tell me another god awful story about how it looks down there, i might just scream.” felicity started, a heavy sigh punctuating her words as she lifted her head from where she’d been sat in the main entrance of the towers. being the head of tenant services meant that she got to deal with all sorts of problems, including some unspeakable acts in the gym. “if it’s anything other than that, then i’m your girl.”
Anna was no stranger to stress, especially the career variant. She’d spent most of her life under a sea of pressure, and when she was responsible for handling massive assets on a daily basis it became an expected part of her life. So she was easily able to recognise the mounting frustration in Felicity's sigh. She was sympathetic. “Not about the bathroom bandit,” She assured, shaking her head in disgust before she continued on, “Although if you were to make that a priority, I would not be mad.”
“did you hear they’re trying to build a bus stop right across the street?” carina ripped a paper off the small bulletin board in the lobby. “apparently it’s against code of the street - “ now that she was saying it out loud, she realized how unlikely and unreal that actually sounded. had she been lied to? “there’s a vote on if we actually want it or not next weekend. are you going to go?”
“Ah, democracy at work,” Anna said with an almost wistful sigh, her eyes flickering up from the newspaper that was in her hands to the bulletin board that Carina stood in front of. She realised that it was slightly old fashioned, but she did love to read a paper in the morning. She loved to have it physically in her hands, bringing pages together through her fingertips to turn them and carefully trying to avoid smudges of ink. “Personally I vote no. To the stop.” She’d definitely be going.

FIRST SOME HISTORY
TW: CHEATING AND IMPLIED HOMOPHOBIA
Anna Penelope Barnes was born in Washington, DC to Robert and Victoria Barnes. The second born and only daughter of the four Barnes children she was often quoted as her mother’s pride and joy, and her father’s favourite.
Her childhood was privileged and yet largely unextraordinary compared to her peers. Of course she was a little spoilt, attending the best private schools in the city and denied nothing that she wanted, but that was just like every other little girl in her class.
It was at twenty-two when things truly changed.
Newly graduated from Columbia, following in her beloved father’s footsteps, Anna was miles away from home when Robert announced that he would be running for Congress. She was ecstatic, it was a natural career progress he’d been discussing for as long as she could remember.
She immediately moved back home, scrapping plans to go to Harvard Law and instead settling for Georgetown, she became an active supporter for Robert’s campaign. She worked at the office and showcased her winning smile at every photo opportunity.
It was all going so well, right until it crashed and burned.
All it took was one intern forgetting to knock, a quiet conversation overheard in the bar two blocks away, and the rumours were flying through town. Robert Daniel Banks Snr and Judge Hemmings caught in an illicit affair, both men’s wives and children found out from the headline.
Anna was devastated, betrayed. She’d put her life on hold for him, changed plans to accommodate him and he’d been so careless. And above all else, he had lied to her. She could have forgiven anything, would have understood and loved him just as she always had, but she wasn’t sure she could forgive him for breaking her mother’s heart. Or if she was honest her own.
And so in the aftermath, a messy and public divorce for her parents alongside her siblings as equally unsure as she was of where they stood, Anna packed up and moved to Boston like she’d meant to do after college. She went to Harvard, but not for Law as she originally planned. In distancing herself from her father she suddenly wasn’t sure it was ever her choice to begin with.
Armed with a Post-Grad in Business Economics and a slightly harder shell than she might have had before, Anna began working at Hercules National Bank five years ago as an agency trader.
AND NOW A LITTLE PERSONALITY
Anna has always been driven, she was under the impression she knew exactly what she wanted and she needed to do anything to get it. Looking back on her earlier years now she might see pressure that she didn’t before, but she’s of a firm belief it made her tougher.
She has a healthy ego, from years of being praised and generally exceeding expectations. She’s been known not to take criticism all that well.
She has a voice, and she knows how to use it. Even in uncomfortable situations, she never could will herself to be quiet.
