A little burlesque - Open Starter
Noire was alive with the rich thrum bass and brass playing its heartbeat, the humm of treble and strings singing its breath. A combination of instrumental band and DJ worked together to fill the walls with that near drug-like energy that brought people to the City of Sin and to Noire herself.
Friday night: Tahlis could feel the faint reverberation of music through the floor as she stepped into a little red dress. Diamonds and gold decorated her fingers and ears, the glit matched the allure of Noires decor as she descended the steps toward the club. A vanity stood at the foot of the stairs where Talia could pause, making sure she was the mark for each visitor to strive before stepping out into her realm.
The first act was just coming to a close as Talia effortlessly slipped through the crowded lounge toward the bar. She moved with the atmosphere of the club; the embodiment of confidence, grace and desire. Hazel eyes caught the bartenders gaze, the unspoken command was acknowledged with his nod even as she turned the stool to drink in tonight's audience. It was early and many of the guests mingled between the acts, getting their own drinks before settling in for the entertainment. It was easy to pick out the tourists from the regulars as a smattering of tee shirts and shorts stood out amid the overall richness of the room. Most of them had already moved up close to the stage, seeking out the tables with the best view.
The music began to pick up again just before one long leg emerged from between the crimson curtains on stage.
[STARTER] Restless
It was a large possibility that Huxley was merely overreacting, but she didn’t want to take the chance that this woman had done something. Since she wasn’t in uniform - or actually had none considering she wasn’t technically with the police department - the request for a badge was one she needed to abide in case she suspected she was just another thug trying to rob her. She kept her barrel trained on her, and with the hand that supported beneath her grip, she slowly reached into her jacket and pulled out her badge. It was shiny and very real, and had the word ‘detective’ arched over the seven points in the star.
“Detective Huxley,” she admitted before stuffing her badge away again. “And no, you may not. I need you to slowly turn toward the wall and set your hands against it.” She hadn’t forgotten the fact that there was blood on the ground. Which is why she needed to contain this woman and clear the area while she could.
Well… shit. Talia had little doubt this woman was who she said even before but that little hope of simply walking away was dashed when a very real badge was shown. Her mind remained on ending this with as little damage as possible and so she did as the detective instructed for the time being.
“Thank you, Detective.” Both hands remained in the air as she slowly turned her back and walked toward the wall. Talia kept her head turned slightly, watching Huxley in the edge of her vision as she spoke. “My name is Talia Hayes, I own Noire up near the strip?” She rested her hands against the cool rough bricks at either side of her head and looked across to Huxley watching the officers expression to see if she had heard of it. “One of my girls came in tonight upset by something she thought she saw out here. I offered to check on things… not my brightest idea.” Everything she said was at least partly true and spoken in a friendly conversational tone, presumably feeling safer now that she knew she was with an officer.
“Though, it seems we are of like mind.” The smile she offered Huxley was a mix of calculated relief and welcome that softened her eyes.
[STARTER] Restless
As the two women emerged into the light, Huxley’s eyes softened in the slightest when she saw who she was pointing at. To anyone else, this woman was at the wrong place at the wrong time. But Huxley, being a Regulator, knew better than to take things for face value - even if her True Sight showed her nothing nefarious about the stranger. So her pistol remained raised for the time being, until some of her questions had been answered.
“Has nobody told you it isn’t safe to wander alone at night?” Huxley prefaced, her eyes steadily upon the stranger in front of her. Regardless of appearing innocent, she still had a hunch that that was blood at her feet. She paused to hear an answer from the woman, but even if she didn’t respond, she’d follow up with another question. “What’s your name?” The first of many.
The edge of annoyance began to cut at Talia. Did this officer truly refuse to move closer? No pat down or cuffs? It was too dark, Talia could try to bend her with compulsion from a distance but the willingness to brave the alley alone and the cautiousness she now showed, it was likely she would be too strong willed to compel easily.
“It is safer for some than others it seems.” Talia dipped her head in a small nod toward the gun still trained on her. “May I?” Her hands lowered an inch, checking to see if she would be allowed to lower them as they spoke. “Forgive me if I ask to see your badge, Officer…” She trailed off in request of a name. “... you know, ‘better safe than sorry’ and all that.”
[STARTER] Restless
Elizabeth hadn’t seen anything at first, the shadows of the alley too dark a contrast to the city lights at its mouth. She had silently chastised herself for leaving her mini flashlight at the hotel and was about to lower her guard when she heard the woman’s voice. The grip on her pistol tightened as she pointed toward the source, and just then her eyes started to adjust. She could see the pale skin reflecting the small bit of light, as well as the faintest catch off the metal of the stranger’s weapons.
“And neither do you if that’s blood you’re stepping in,” Huxley said calmly, poised and ready to shoot, even though they were at a bit of a stand off. Her eyes strained for the details from the feminine voice, a tall form taking shape at least, but it wasn’t good enough. “Las Vegas Metropolitan Police,” she lied in introduction, “step out into the light with your hands surrendered.”
She couldn’t have been certain the stranger was armed anyway. For every step the stranger took out, she’d take a step back toward the mouth to the street.
Talia had no interest in dealing with the disposal of a body and even less interest in becoming that body. Using the shadows and the motion of following directions, Talia covertly slipped the slim pistols into her coat pockets; stashing the guns on the path to lifting her hands to shoulder level. Slowly, Talia rose. No quick movements.
She was not tall, no more that 5’6 with two of those inches gifted by ruined leather boots, and sylph-like. Talia did not look the part of predator and she played that to her advantage as they shifted together, never moving closer than the other moved away, following Huxley’s lead until they were both in the growing light from the street.
A quick glance searched the street for the safest escape to her bike should things turn sour. Only two possible paths and heading back down the alley was the only one that would give any cover. Hazel eyes settled back on the agent watching her closely for the next move.

[STARTER] Restless
...Blood, thick and slippery, squished under her boots as she landed the twelve foot drop in a crouch, and “Fuck” was the only thought Tahlia had time for before she heard the footsteps.
Call it a woman’s intuition, but Huxley wasn’t about to leave this alley be. Her pistol raised at an angle toward the floor, her marksman training definitely showed by the way she wielded it. Her eyes were wide and scrutinizing every last detail of the dark alley her human eyes could possibly make out, and she took careful steps forward.
Coming up on the first dumpster she’d thought she had heard a noise from, she paused as the pool of dark liquid became visible upon the concrete. It was thick, and it still seemed fresh or disrupted at least. But before she inspected what it could have been, she needed to clear the corner she couldn’t see - the other side of the dumpster.
Her pistol’s barrel raised upward at the ready, and with careful steps she placed her back near the opposite wall. Just before her line of sight broke, she took a quick step past the dumpster, her gun pointed on the corner, hoping to get the jump on anything would it have been there.
Two sleek no snag BU9 Nanos slid from their holsters and aimed with steady hands. Talia listened closely to the sound of footsteps; the sound of heels - a woman. Her aim lowered an inch. Soft steps - lighter, not overly tall. Another inch lowered for center mass. Keen hazel eyes focused through the Nanos sights just off the edge of the nearest dumpster. It was a heart racing moment… if ones heart still raced.
A slow breath brought in the natural feminine fragrance of the woman lingering just out of sight. No single female would be dumb enough to explore the dark alleys of Vegas alone. Unless… ‘she’s a fucking cop.’ Talia thought. Still crouched low over the slowing pool of blood, Talia was motionless. Her body was tense with energy waiting to be released, like a cat just before the pounce.
The woman turned the corner quickly, the movement of a professional. One who hopefully didn’t shoot first and ask questions later.“You don’t want to be here.” Talias voice was low but carried on the night air with a calm warning and no threat. Her black clothing and black hair in the shadows cast by the metal dumpsters allowed Talia to be little more than a pale figure hidden among blackness, only visible to the naked eye where her skin was exposed.
It was an odd phenomenon to be able to solely hear the taps of your own steps on the streets of Las Vegas, save for passing cars in the distance. For a sleepless city, Elizabeth had assumed there were no quiet streets, and found herself eerily disturbed to be proven wrong. It was just one of...
[STARTER] RESTLESS
The world sped by with its only sounds being the rumble of her motorcycle and the whisper of her thoughts. Streetlights pulsed, steadily growing just to blink out of existence - flash -- flash --- flash --- as the hazy glow of the Vegas Strip faded away in the distance behind her the buildings steadily regressed to poorly lit warehouses and office buildings. This was not where Talia wanted to be, though it seemed she would be given little choice in the matter. Feral attacks were becoming prominent news these days; someone or something was growing careless, even leaving witnesses… and Talia did not enjoy having to compel her own people on others behalf.
Heeled boots hit the ground as the kickstand was knocked into place under her bike. Its clean white paint was a stark contrast to the black fitted riding pants and jacket. Utility beat fashion tonight and both hands ran over the supple leather and across the the twin Beretta Nano’s tucked away at the small of her back, ensuring their access before she turned to contemplate the multitude of a darkened alleys that stretched before her.
Dark, quiet, the district was all but abandoned for the evening. The emptiness a bit unnerving in what should be a busy city. The only sign of life was the rustlings of the homeless hidden among the shadows and the unclean odor that lingered around them. But there was something more, the distinct scent of blood caught the air. With the elevated grace of a wild cat stalking its prey, Talia strode down the alley, hoping to arrive before the attacker had lost interest. A single story brick wall blocked her path to the growing aroma... It was too much blood, she was too late and she knew it even as she pushed off the wall with one foot to jump onto the dumpsters lid. Metal banged against metal and scraped against brick as she landed and lept again to vault the wall.
Blood, thick and slippery, squished under her boots as she landed the twelve foot drop in a crouch, and “Fuck” was the only thought Tahlia had time for before she heard the footsteps.
