This sort of thinking also trains straight and bi women to expect to get treated like shit by their partners instead of believing that men are compassionate, kind, generous people who should be expected to treat their partners well.

And, not to get all “what about cis people” on this but there are young teen boys on this blogging platform who are learning that they are “trash” simply for looking at or being attracted to women and there are adult men on this platform who are  trying to turn themselves inside out to try to “make up” for their maleness and framing men as terrible, unsafe, selfish, bad people is the exact kind of gender essentialist bullshit that says all women are compassionate and good communicators and naturally maternal caregivers.

It’s crap! It’s garbage!

You can write off all cops as bad because they all looked at an abusive, corrupt system and went “I want to be a part of that.”

If you write off “men,” the type category, fifty fucking percentish of the goddamned species, as trash you’re looking at a little boy or a black father or an autistic teen or a gay pensioner or even just a totally run of the mill cis straight white dude and saying “you were born wrong.”

And you know what, for fucking YEARS I’ve been saying “feminism benefits men too” and “feminism helps everyone” and there has been this loud minority of utter fucking assholes saying that men are trash and there’s no such thing as misandry and I’ve been trying to say “yeah, okay, those people are assholes but they’re not really a huge part of the movement” and but now it seems like their shitty ideas about purity culture have crossed over to the mainstream and their shitty sex negativity has crossed over to the mainstream, and radical feminism in general and TERFs in particular are brimming with misandry that is an exact fucking mirror to the misogyny of blackpilled incels and we are very calmly letting it infect our discourse and discredit our philosophy.

ALSO all of this bullshit broadcasts and spreads the idea that women must always be protected from men (which is exactly how JK Rowling justifies her transmisogyny) which does NOTHING to accomplish the equality that feminism is nominally about.

“Men are trash” and “kill all men lol” is a memeified, gender-swapped version of Mike Fucking Pence refusing to meet with women unsupervised because they might contaminate or tempt him. 

When young boys see those posts everywhere and start to get (rightfully) upset, the most "understanding" groups seem to be ones that are proud of being men. They're told that they're special or superior in some way and after such a blow to their confidence, they want to believe it. They're told to read books written by women exposing how "manipulative" women are. It becomes an obsession and that pride becomes rampant misogyny.

In college I learned that I lost more points for not having my paper done on time than for missing class. A really uncomfortable amount of my college career was spent a few hundred feet from the classroom I was supposed to be in at the time, frantically finishing an essay instead of attending class.

As an adult, I actively flee from people and situations if I feel like I haven’t done something that I owe them. I’m terrified of going to the dentist because I haven’t brushed as regularly as I should. I’d put off going to the doctor for years at a time because I hadn’t exercised as often as they wanted me to. I would actively reject calls from loved ones because I hadn’t played a game or watched a show or read a book that they wanted to talk to me about. And I’ll go radio-silent on tumblr and other social media when I feel like I owe someone a fic or a bit of meta that I haven’t done yet. If you’re wondering why I sometimes disappear for ages at a time, it’s that.

And it’s shitty. Because rationally I know that my loved ones aren’t going to hate me for not getting around to watching a show. My dentist won’t get mad at me. Now that I have an actually halfway decent doctor, I’m not even being fat-shamed in the office anymore. 

Twenty-some years of learned behavior is a hell of a thing to break out of. 

The first step in that direction is forgiving yourself. Teaching yourself that nobody’s going to punish you for failing to live all the way up to your obligations. 

And part of that is removing yourself from the people and environments that are going to reinforce that old way of thinking– not least of which are social media circles where somebody is punished more harshly for trying and making an honest mistake than for never trying at all.

And part of that is being open about that discomfort and fear, because it turns out that a whole lot of people are actually willing to cut you some slack and work with you instead. You don’t always have to give up and hide.

It’s something I’m working on. It’s something I fail at sometimes. A lot of times.

And that’s okay.

The Penumbra Podcast. 10/10. Fucking perfect, only like 2 straight cis men, not including the cops. It was what first drew my in to the podcast would, and I’m really greatful. There’s two main storylines, the first, more popular one is about Juno Steel. He is a nonbinary, bisexual noir detective in space and he falls in love with a master thief. It’s as good as it sounds. The second storyline is about the knights of the Second Citadell and one big part of that is the polyamourous relationship with a lizard. Sophie Takani Kaner is NOT a coward. Listen to it.

Wolf 359. Space! Starts out nice and Eiffel is a lazy slouch who steals the last toothpaste, but by episode 12 it’s full on Among us. 7/10, very good.

The Strange Case of Starship Iris. Also really good. Goverment conspiracies and a wlw couple. Raises good points on aliens and their perspective in gender. A bit short though, only 1 season out. Underrated, 9/10

Eos 10. Four seasons and I binged it all in less than two weeks. Somehow this one is also in space. Doctors, hypocondriac aliens and flirty space cowboys. Really fun characters and storyline. Comfort show, 9/10

Love and Luck. Gay comfort show. Many short episodes and I started yesterday, but I really like it already. These boyfriends open a gay nonalcoholic bar/cafe, and also magic. Consists only of voicemails. Gay as in happy, underrated. 9/10

How I died. The new coroner in Springfield knows how to talk to ghosts, and a lot of people die in mysterious ways. He tries to solve the crimes and keep it a secret. 7/10

The two princes. I liked the first season the most. Two princes are on quests to save their kingdoms, and they fall in love. It’s really sweet. 6/10, bc the 2nd & third seasons.

The Magnus Archives. Only this far down on the list bc I’m listing them after when I started listening. Normally horror isn’t my thing really, but it has a plot and some more characters that come in more after a while. Still, it took a while to get used to. 8/10

The Pasithea Powder. Old friends leave eachother voicemails while figuring out a goverment conspiracy. Set in space ten months after a war. One is a warhero, the other a warcriminal and both feel they did the right thing. Great. 9/10

Me and AU. A tiny fandom in Canada and lesbians who can’t tell when they’re being flirted with. They talk about their favourite tv show. Still releasing episodes so they haven’t met irl yet. 8/10

Stellar Firma. The clone David 7 and Trexel Geistman design planets together. It’s all very silly and entertaining. Trexel is always at least 7 and half jours late. In space. I listen to it when TMA scares me too much. 9/10

Mission Rejected. Amateurs mess up every spy jobs they get when the one good agent there is decides to take a vacation. Fun, though it didn’t really stick. 5/10

We fix space junk. Capitalism sucks, that’s obvious. Another fun space podcast. 6/10

Bright Sessions. Therapy for young superheroes. I really liked the Caleb and Adam storyline. 6/10
