In a moment of weakness, Riki had agreed to cover your shift as "reparations for leaving me with our most incompetant coworker." As much as he didn't want to go straight from his classes to a shift at the cafe, he was not willing to risk the generational curse you would have inevitably put on his family name. 

The residual tired covered his body like a blanket, slumping his movement until all he could do is lazily move forward. Despite everything, he somehow managed to make it to work on time, praising whatever unseen force was aiding him as he clocked in right at five. 

The shift was awful. The cafe was doing a deal, and what seemed like the entire campus was making good on it. Before he knew it, the line was wrapping around the room, only getting longer as he takes orders and makes drinks. 

He can hear whispered bickering coming from one of the tables. Sparing a glance, Riki saw two men, one of whom is pointing crazily between the counter and the other man. Were they arguing over who was gonna order? It seemed like a chaotic date, if anything. 

"Lee Minho," he overhears, "if you don't go up and ask right now, I'm locking you out of game night."

The other man, Lee Minho, expasperated, stands up and walks up beside the line of customers.

"Hi," he said to Riki, "is Y/n coming in today?"

"So you're Lee Minho, huh?" Riki couldn't help but grin. "The one Y/n went on a date with?"

"Oh. You know about that, huh? So are you two like… good friends, or…?"

"Good enough friends to know about your game night. Say…" an idea, sinister or maybe wonderful, blooms in his mind, "Han Jisung had a plus one, right?"

"He does… what does that matter to you?"

"So that means you ought to have a plus one too, right?"

"Where are you going with this?" Minho already knows the answer, but he wants to know if this random person will actually have the gall to say it.

"So here's the thing," the barista began, "Y/n's my girl, right? And I'm not too keen on letting her go into a game night at some stranger's house with a bunch of men she and her friends don't know, you feel me?"

"So?" Go on, kid. Spell. It. Out. 

"Invite me."

He was ready to say no, the words painted on his tongue. But there's something about the wicked resolve in the young man's eyes that makes him falter. If Y/n's friend was there, that might throw both Jisung and Y/n off their balance enough to eleviate the pressure to flirt.

Minho had never been good with women—never had much reason to practice the skill. The only way he made it through their first date was by pretending he was just hanging out with Jisung. But he somehow doubted that would work for an entire night. 

And that's why, to the shock not only of the barista, but also of himself, he says, "Alright."

You can feel the sweat beading at the palms of your hands, replacing itself faster than you could wipe it on your corduroy pants. You were worried about a lot: was this the right address, would Minho's friends like you, would Minho like you as much as he seemed to on your date, are you overdressed, are you underdressed, should you go home before your get the change to knock on the door?

A familiar voice pulls you out of your panicked thoughts. What was he doing here? Turning around, you see none other than Takayama Riki coming up to the door you currently stood in front of. Where there's a will, you understood for the first time, there's a way. He grinned like mad when he saw you.

"Am I amazing or am I amazing?" He boasted, knocking on the door before you could decide to run away. 

"What are you doing here?" You hissed, your cheeks burning deep crimson at his appearance here of all places. 

"If you thought I'd actually let you come here with four men none of your friends know, you're an idiot… plus you keep refusing to introduce me to Han."

You had to admit, his reasoning was admirable, if underlined with selfish intent. 

"Fine, you can stay," you begrudge just in time for the door to open, revealing none other than Jisung.

"Y/nnie!" he pulls you into a bone-crushing hug, only noticing Riki when he pulls away. He doesn't evem bother trying to hide the fact that he's talking about the unknown man when he says, "Do you know this guy?"

"He's a friend, don't worry." Having people who care enough to worry about you is nice, but you're trying to stand on your own two feet, and your overprotective friends are certainly not helping. "Can we come in now?"

"Yeah, of course! We're just waiting on some of the other guys—y'know, our friends who graduated already." Jisung welcomed you in, Riki following close behind you. Already, there were three others: Minho and two men you don't recognize. The taller of the two was poking at the shorter's side, goading a reaction out of him. They all stopped when they saw you there, standing up to greet you. 

"Hey," the shorter one grins, the kind of smile that makes the room a little brighter, "I'm Jeongin. The annoying one over there is Seungmin."

"You love me," Seungmin said, wrapping an arm around Jeongin's shoulder. Already, you're beginning to feel overwhelmed, suddenly relieved you have Riki here with you. 

You introduce yourself, getting sucked into a conversation with the two men which quickly devolved into mutual ragebait with you in the center. Riki had already abandoned you to the wolves, chatting with Jisung in the corner. Minho was looking at you, like he wasn't sure whether to intervene and save you or leave you be. 

The doorbell rang before he had to make a choice. 

"That should be Chan and Hyun," Minho said, standing up before the noise of the doorbell was quieted. You took the opportunity to stand too, making your move to get closer to Minho under the guise of introducing yourself to his other friends. 

"And this is Y/n," Minho says when you come up, pulling you closer, "the girl I've been seeing."

One of the new men looks confused, opening his mouth to say something until the other one elbowed his side, shutting him up. 

"It's nice to meet you," the elbower said, his accent catching you by surprise, "I'm Bang Chan, you can call me Chan. And… you can pretty much ignore our resident pabo, Hyunjin."

"Who you calling a pabo? I graduated a year early!"

"You were studying business," Minho argues, "that doesn't count."

"And your dance major does?"

"My best friend's also a dance major," you pipe in, "if the hours he spends at the studio are any indication, it's hard work."

The group keeps chatting as everybody's catching up, not too worried about actually finding a game yet. You sit between Minho and Chan, listening to the conversation more than participating in it. 

You have to admit, it's quite chaotic. You hadn't even noticed Jisung had left until he comes back with food. The boys make quick work of the meal, hardly giving you enough time to get yourself a serving. 

"Got enough?" you recognize the voice as Chan's, turning around to see concerned eyes. 

"Plenty, thank you," you reassure him with a smile.

While you eat, the group discusses what game to play. After much back and forth, with games like Monopoly ("Monopoly makes people hate each other, dumbass"), Life ("Yawn, booriing!"), and even Settlers of Catan ("Do people actually play that game?"), the group decided on Werewolf. 

The rules of the game were simple, one person, the narrator, passes out cards to everybody. Your role depends on which card you got. Since you got a number card, you're just an ordinary villager. Looking around, you try to analyse everybody's reactions to the card they got. The only person you can actually manage to get a good read on is Riki, who you can tell probably got a good-guy card based on his slightly disappointed expression. Everybody else is a mystery to you.

Your hopes of getting to figure out who everybody is are quickly dashed when Hyunjin, in narrating the events of the last night, reveals that you had been killed by the werewolf. 

As the game continues, you get to see firsthand the dynamic between the friends. You can't help but laugh from beyond the grave as Seungmin pretends to hold a short funeral when Jeongin dies. You can tell that beyond the mutual ragebait, the two actually care very deeply for each other. 

As the night continues, you can't help but feel like something was off. When Minho pays attention to you, it's like he's all there, but as soon as his eyes leave yours, he completely forgets about you—like he has to remind himself that he's supposed to be interested. You try to convince yourself that it's your imagination. That comforting thought disappears just as quickly as it comes when you hear Seungmin and Minho on the other side of the room.

"Oh, whatever, you only chose Jeongin because you have a crush on him," Minho huffed.

"Please, you're gayer than me and I'm actively in a relationship."

You could have considered it a joke, if not for Jisung's elbowing Seungmin in the side, looking at you like the world might be crumbling down. 

So it is real… Minho is gay and Jisung and all of their friends knew about it and didn't say anything. You can feel the room spinning around you, you don't know whether to laugh or to cry, all you know is that you have to get out of here. 

You make a half-hearted excuse to get up, rushing out the door. Riki is on your tail, calling out for you to stop. When you're safely outside on the sidewalk, you turn to face him, tears streaming down your face. Riki finally catches up to you, engulfing you in a hug, shielding you from the sight of the apartment building and the cold of the night and the harsh reality of the world. As you sobbed into his chest, lungs heaving in air like they weren't sure whether or not they deserved it, you could only repeat one thing.

"I thought he liked me."
