walter: jesse... someone chopped your shi
This Aaron and Bryan moment from the behind the scenes is giving me SUCH FILTHY THOUGHTS LOL
survivor's guilt
THIS IS SO GOOD! I'm doing one of this too, with meth-slave Jesse. š
Jesse doodles cuz he makes me sad:/
With the way Walt wasted no time to start abusing Jesse as soon as they partnered up, and considering Walt treats Jesse like he's his son AND his wife... Do you think this means Walt had been bursting at the seams to abuse his real son and real wife this whole time, and only with Jesse did he have a chance to do so?
*Pushes glasses up on nose as though I am a respected scholar in a legitimate field of study* Ok so I hate to answer a compelling question with a kind of roundabout, not at all concrete answer but here goes: Walter wants to do whatever Walter wants to do, in the moment, without having to concern himself with that pesky, pedestrian little irritant known as ye olde consequences. Heās your basic old white fart who, because he grew up with the oxymoron of the white man as a vehicle for both exceptionalism and the Everyman, believes that consequences should not apply to him, and feels that he has been hard done by because, shocker, his stagnancy prior to the beginning of the series hasnāt resulted in everything he ever wanted falling into his lap! He does abuse both Skyler and Flynn over the course of the series, the assault on Skyler in season two being the most overtly violent of these instances, though it is heavily implied in season five that this isnāt even a one time occurrence; āI canāt even keep you out of my bed!ā Itās also in season two that he peer pressures his teenage son into drinking to excess to gain the upper hand in his one-sided pissing contest with Hank, and this mirrors the ways in which he flexes his control over Jesse in front of Gus and Mike. Walter is dangerous precisely because he doesnāt view himself as an abuser, itās not like he wistfully daydreams about slouching around the house in a wifebeater, terrorizing his wife and kids until they walk on eggshells around him. In fact, heās shown throughout the series to act like a little pissbaby throwing a little pissbaby tantrum whenever heās treated by his family like the monster he is. He wants to be able to act on his anger, to rape his wife and bully his son, without being subject to any of the organic repercussions these actions would inevitably induce. He doesnāt want to play the part of the mild-mannered family man anymore, or put in any of the work required to keep up that front, but he still wants to be seen as the provider and benevolent patriarch. He wants to have his fucking cake and eat it to.
Thatās where Jesse comes in.
Walter loves Jesse, he does. The problem was never that he didnāt love Jesse, it was why he loved Jesse. Walter loves Jesse more than Flynn, that much was confirmed by Vince in a quote I canāt find anymore for the fucking life of me so youāll just have to take my word for it ig. Walter might even love Jesse more than Skyler. But he doesnāt love Jesse as a person so much as a conduit, as an indispensable resource. Itās pretty vital, actually, that the person Walter projects all his shit onto isnāt a part of his immediate family, because then Jesse can be whatever he wants him to be. Itās great for Walter that Jesseās a junkie, because then, according to societal norms, he doesnāt have to see Jesse as human when heās taking out all of his anger on him. When Jesse isnāt being malleable enough for his liking, or even if Waltās mad about something else entirely, then Jesseās just a junkie, a nobody, an ungrateful, petulant fuck-up. When Walter is being rightfully shut out by his family or needs Jesse for some material task, then Jesse is practically family to him. Theyāre partners. Itās a terrible burden to put on an impressionable 24-year-old, a pretty fucking shitty thing to do to someone who trusts you, more than they should, and an impossible exception to live up to, to be someoneās everything.
So when Jesse inevitably fails at it, inevitably falls short of this perfectly imperfect idealization of himself, he is punished, horribly.
Walter never would have done the things he did to Jesse to Flynn, or to Skyler.
He doesnāt love them as much.
Jesus...this Made go crazy š«

when I think about breaking bad I wonder what change to the timeline could have led to the best outcome for each character. I think it might of been if jesse had never found out about tomas. don't get me wrong he was morally correct to try and stop those guys. but if he hadn't the event that lead to the violent conflict between gus and walt wouldn't have happened, gus walt and jesse might have continued to have a good working relationship until walt and jesse retired or walt died from his cancer returning. unless gus really was planning on killing jesse and walt after their two year cook which seems unlikely.
They are so self-destructive that they would have found another reason to fuck up that for them.
The only way I could see Jesse working well with the operation is if he would have mantain a type of relationship like the one he had with Mike cause at that point, Even before killing Gale, Jesse was not in a good state of mind and he was confused about what he wanted to do with his life and not content with what he was doing(He was already stealing meth from the lab)
And Walt wouldn't have that kind of realtionship with him so š
Then, from Walter's part, I think he would still have his problems. He have a lot of self-destructive type of reactions. I don't think his ego and that impulse Walt have to seek power would allow him to stay good in that position.
Yeah, his paranoia kind of exploted when Gus killed Victor in front of him and that trigger a Lot of his extreme reactions, but still.
I'm just saying they are doomed to fuck up. Jesse, cause he wouldn't have the validation and guidence he really needed, (and that's not an environment he do well really)
Walt, cause he would still seek more extreme things to feel satisfied.
(I think Walt saved Jesse from those gangbangers not only cause he felt an insane codependent attachment towards him, but also cause unconsciously he needed something as an excuse to trigger a conflict with Gus.)

breaking bad (literally)
it's so nicely written that how when jesse first returns from rehab, he tries to incorporate the lesson he was taught there; to accept himself for who he really is. and then he gets it so, SO wrong. he thinks of himself as evil, as the villain, as a bad guy. and then he tries to embrace this. but he doesn't see how false that perception is. it is very clear that jesse simply does not thrive as a drug dealer. it tears him up with sorrow, with grief, with anger, with depression and numbness and guilt and self-hatred. it's not who he is at all and he is suffering exactly because he's going against his true nature.
walt, however -who in that same episode is insisting that 'he is not like that' (a criminal, a villain, a bad guy)- is also clinging to a false perception of himself. because he, in fact, is THRIVING when he embraces his most ruthless, most cunning, most ambitious heisenberg self. he is at his strongest when he fully accepts this role and asserts himself as such, and at his weakest and most pathetic when he fabricates multitudes of unbelievable little lies and excuses to keep his image as a family man intact. walt (and his family) also suffer because he can not face the reality of who he is.
and god the whole of it is so CRUNCHY
