they missed having cas possess dean (the implications!! the trust!!) and I will forever be salty about that
OH that would have been amazing!! can you IMAGINE?? i feel like it should have happened sometime during the divorce arc of season 15, where cas and dean aren’t speaking to each other, but dean gets himself into a bad spot during a case that happens to be in the same town where cas is.
dean gets hurt VERY badly, and cas’ remaining grace isn’t enough to heal dean from the outside, so he proposes something else: temporary possession, just for a day, so that he can fully heal dean. dean, who doesn’t want to die (and also is in love with cas and wants to be close with him again), agrees, and cue a whole episode of cas trying to act like dean, and also exploring the inner depths of dean’s psyche (which is just Oops! All Trauma! and it’s a horrible time for both of them. maybe there’s a memory of j*hn in there and cas gets to punch him (and maybe the memory shifts and it turns out cas didn’t punch DEAN’S deadbeat dad, he punched his own deadbeat dad ch*ck) lots of catharsis there)
also because SPN is a comedy, cue a scene where cas-as-dean goes to starbucks and orders a pink drink because cas loves pink drinks
