#ZuWeitWeg, Too far away, 2019.

Hey there! I have a little question regarding ableist language. So I know that d*mb and st*pid are slurs and should not be used in any context but I've seen you (and many others) still use the word "silly". In my language (German) all three words can be translated to mean roughly the same or at least have similar meaning. So why is "silly" ok and the other two words not?
silly in English has a very different meaning actually, where ‘dumb’ means someone who is deaf or mute (and therefore must have low intelligence) and ‘stupid’ means someone of low intelligence, silly means foolish, often intentionally so, or basically ‘you know better than to do this, but you did it anyways’ and has no connections to suggesting the person whom you’re calling ‘silly’ is of low intelligence.
‘Silly’ has never been used to target specifically disabled people either, history is important in words. ‘stupid’ and ‘dumb’ are words that were developed to describe (and as a result, harm) disabled people, specifically people thought to have ‘low intelligence’ like learning disabled people (including, autism, down’s, adhd, dyslexia, dyscalcula, NLD, etc.). Silly was not (likewise with foolish). The history of the words is also why those two would have ableist connotations, where ‘silly’ doesn’t.
I’m personally a little iffy on the use of ‘stupid’ though, I wouldn’t consider it a slur, like id*** or re**** but the term is ableist, because of it’s history and has likely been used more against learning disabled people than non learning disabled people. It’s a coded word, more than a slur.
