From manga:
To anime:
Fearless swordsman Zoro, is not afraid of anything, except of Nami's anger. As he should! xD
This panel says a lot about Sanji and how much he values keeping promises.I love that Zoro is also included on this panel, since he's another character who would rather die than not fulfil a promise.
And those two honourable men made a pact between them on Wano:
Zoro being afraid of needles will never stop being hilarious to me.
You have a tough guy who has been impaled with swords various times, who was willing to cut off his legs and he's afraid of a needle.
I know I shouldn't pay attention on twitter because there "fans" are saying that Zoro's sacrifice at the end of Thriller Bark arc ain't something special because according to them all the straw hats would also make a sacrifice for Luffy.
On the surface, I kinda agree. All the straw hats are very loyal to Luffy and even on the same chapter/episode we have another nakama ( Sanji ) who offers to sacrifice himself. It's not far fetched to say that all the straw hats would make sacrifices for Luffy if the time called it.
With that being said, Oda- sensei, the one who writes the story chose to give that moment to Zoro, not to Sanji or Nami or Usopp or any other straw hat - and that makes it narratively significant ( as the rest of the choices he makes in his manga). He chose the first person who joined the Straw Hat crew, who has been with their captain the longest. The one who once in the early beginning said that he would follow Luffy as long as he wouldn't mess with his plans.
( One Piece chapter #6)
But this time, he was willing to sacrifice everything for his captain. It would have been easier to do so if he was suicidal or if he had low self esteem. But Zoro didn't do it because he didn't value his life. He admitted to Kuma that he had much ambitions, he just prioritised Luffy's life and dream more. And that makes his sacrifice even more significant.
( one piece chapter #485)
He accepted all of Luffy's pain and being his typical self - aka stoic on the surface but very kind beneath- he never admitted that he did so. And thus how the iconic quote "nothing happened" was born. Α moment so iconic that made it to list with the best anime one piece scenes according to the worldwide poll:
This beautiful moment of true loyality and selfless love remains up until to this point the scene which showcases the most loyalty a straw hat - or heck any pirate- has shown towards their captain. And it belongs to Zoro. And it's dedicated to his lovely bond with Luffy. Because Oda-sensei decided so.

One of Zoro's coolest scenes is how he acquired Sandai Kitetsu:
I miss the early arcs of one piece when among the straw hats (east blue crew) Zoro and Nami were actually the most serious and cautious duo.
Like for example when they all arrived on Whiskey Peak and those two were the ones who weren't immediately impressed by the citizens' hospitality:
Zoro always looking the happiest while he drinks:
