he had a boyfriend whom he met in high school. they had been dating for years prior to the series. in the series, they go to a party in a mansion together. [SPOILERS FOR THE NIGHTLY MANOR BEYOND THIS POINT!! be warned!!] the mansion ends up being locked and full of traps and stuff, and people end up dying. it is revealed in episode 3 (theres only 6 episodes) that they were the one behind all this; triggering some traps on purpose and just straight up murdering people, much to the shock and fear of their boyfriend. however, in episode 6 it is revealed gps was under a virus planted by someone else and was not the one murdering everyone. after being found out by gps, the viruses proceed to engage the self-destruct feature. gps, in his last moments, recalls a prom dance with his boyfriend. but, in their last few seconds of consciousness before they explode, they are brought back to reality. the last thing they see is their boyfriend looking at them with a horrified expression.

In a way, when you think about it, they came this close to introducing the first (?) non-binary character in animation at the time. A pity they ended it on an ambiguous note where Zoit refused to reveal their identity until they “developed a crush on either of them”.

On the other hand, while the episode included the usual stereotypic interests for boys and girls, they did include some gender-based lessons to balance things out - the guys weeping at a sappy movie, one of the girls being invited to play football.
