“I’m dead, Jay!” Cole yelled, clenching his fists so tight he would have bled. Would have. “And there’s no way to fix it! I’m not going to magically be cured by some — some miracle!”

Maybe he was taking out his anger on his best friend, but he was too mad to stop. “I’m dead, and Lloyd is with that bastard, and Zane is broken — we’re broken! This entire team! We’re all broken, without Lloyd!”

“And now our chances have decreased again, because I’m useless!”

“You’re not useless, Cole!” Jay yelled right back. “You couldn’t be useless if you tried! We’re going to get through this. You’re going to be okay, and Lloyd’s going to be okay, we’re all going to be okay! Even in the worst of circumstances, we have always managed to pull through. Why should that be any different this time?”

“Because I’m just like them now!”

Jay’s face softened at Cole’s outburst. Cole sunk down, sitting on his bed and covering his face with his hand.

“I just — I’m just like them,” he sobbed, and crying without tears was such an odd sensation that he only cried harder.

Jay sighed, joining him on the bed and giving Cole a moment before he spoke. “Just because you look like them doesn’t mean you’re like them. I mean, Zane had an entire evil army of robots that were literally designed to be like him, and he certainly wasn’t like them.”

“But—“
