Costa Rica - Zip-Lining, Sloths & Hot Springs
For a long time now, Costa Rica has been among the top destinations to visit on my bucket list. It is a country with beautiful white sand beaches, a rainforest, volcanoes, and once in a lifetime experiences that you won’t be offered anywhere else. Costa Rica is known for having the highest zip-line in the world. 7,234 feet long and over 1,200 feet high, travellers are offered the opportunity get to unleash their adventurous side! I can’t think of anything more exhilarating than flying high above the rainforest treetops. Personally, I have never had the opportunity to experience the thrill of a zip-line before, so experiencing it in Costa Rice for the first time would be a dream come true! Travellers have said the top of the zip-line offers an incredible bird’s eye view of the rainforest and large volcanoes. Visitors have many different packages to choose from in order to customize their zip-lining experience; depending on how much time they have and would like to spend at this attraction. And if all of that it’s enough, finish off your day relaxing and unwinding with a tropical drink on a near by beach! – A perfect day.
One of my favourite animals call Costa Rica home; the sloth! Although I have the opportunity to see a sloth at the Toronto zoo at home in Canada, I think it would be so incredible to see one living in its natural habitat. This opportunity is my main motivation to plan a trip to Costa Rica! Visitors interested in seeing these adorable creatures can plan their trip to The Sloth Sanctuary. It is the only place of it’s kind in the entire world. The facility offers the public an opportunity to observe rescued sloths as well as ones wild in their natural habitat. Travellers who are interested can purchase two different types of tours when visiting. The first is a self-guided tour of the sanctuary. The second is a more intimate experience which they call the “Insider’s Tour”. This second option sounds the most intriguing to me! It is a small group where a maximum of 6 people get a 4-hour VIP experience in the sanctuary. It features a canoe ride to see sloths wild in their natural habitat, a light lunch, and a guided tour to see rescued sloths back at the sanctuary. Although visitors are not able to hold or touch the sloths due to safety, an experience like this is truly one of a kind and perfect for those who love sloths as much as I do!
Last, but certainly not least (as there are so many more amazing things to do in this beautiful county) I would love to do a spa day. Costa Rica has many world-renowned resorts that are built on the site of natural hot springs. After all of the exciting adventures you are bound to journey, how nice would it be to relax and enjoy the natural occurring earth? The hot springs are heated during the resting phase of a volcano where magma still rises close enough to the surface to come in contact with ground water, which allows the hot springs to stay warm (Isn’t science/mother nature so cool)? Depending on the spa you choose to visit and how much energy you have left at the end of your trip, some spas may offer special packages where you can hike to see the top of a volcano before relaxing in a hot spring. It’s a once in a lifetime experience. I would highly recommend doing the most you can while visiting Costa Rica, I know I will be!
