Today we are releasing our new Cykra website!
It has been long time underway but we are extremely proud of the final result which is both beautiful and unique while truly conveying our identity and future as a company.
So we invite you now to check it out. We hope you will enjoy it as much as we do and never forget who does the best custom apps and websites. ;)
After months of hard work wrestling with various new apps and websites, we managed to find time for a well deserved day away from the keyboard.
So we went on an adrenaline fueled zip lining adventure at Casela Nature Park Mauritius followed by a nice lunch at the bay hotel with a little birthday surprise for Yohini.
Check out the pictures below:
In retrospect, 2015 was a very good first year for Cykra but certainly also a bumpy ride. We grew from nearly nothing, to a small solid team of 5 people. We converted a private residence in Albion, Mauritius, to a beautiful office with brand new furniture and room to further expand our team. We built and maintained apps and websites for clients in Scandinavia, UK and Mauritius. We launched our first product; our cross platform password manager Lifekees.
We have failed and succeeded, and many lessons were learned.
I am proud of what we have achieved as a team and I am very proud of our team itself. Certainly we could not have gone so far without our collaborators such as Keseena and Associates Ltd, Pro.duce Ltd and &Hype ApS.
For 2016, we are ready with an optimised strategy to ensure stability and steady growth of the company. One important point in this strategy is to promote knowledge sharing, widen experience accumulation and have more fun by increasingly lifting tasks as a team effort.
Cykra should in this coming year move a great deal closer to our long term goal of becoming one of the best and highest regarded employers and fosterers of IT talent in Mauritius.
In 2015, we made “HTML5 app and web development” our area of expertise, and in 2016 we will polish and fine tune this skill-set to perfection, to become one of the best in the field.
Lastly in this new year we will bring much expansion to our newly launched password manager; Lifekees. As our first and primary product (aside of software development), further establishing this product on the market will be our major objective of 2016.
With that I will once again thank the Cykra team, our collaborators and customers for a great and exciting year.
I wish you all the best for 2016 and I look forward to an even more exciting year alongside of you.
Happy New Year
Nicklas Wolff
CEO
We are thrilled to announce that our new product; Lifekees has just landed and is here to assist you and your digital life by keeping your passwords organised, secure and readily available whenever you need them.

Holograms has for a long time been a fascinating movie effect. However, creating realworld holograms have been expensive, highly impractical and somewhat unimpressive. Microsoft has explored holograms from a very interesting angle, leaving behind the traditional but troublesome idea of objective holograms in favor of a subjective holograms, generated to the wearer by their new HoloLens.
To call it entirely subjective, for the wearer of the HoloLens, may be to sell it a bit short, as a second wearer of the HoloLens will be able to view the same hologram, thereby moving it closer to an objective hologram. Perhaps something we could call a "shared subjective hologram".
This we believe will be the game changer that allows for holographic technology to really take shape in the near future.

The subject of HTML5 can be rather confusing at times mainly due to the large difference in its actual definition and how it is most broadly understood.
It is very likely that you have already read about HTML5 in connection with Adobe Flash, even perhaps as the successor of Flash. Further, terms such as "HTML5 architecture" and "HTML5 apps" are becoming very common and implies a rich possibility of processing in HTML5. But in actuality HTML5 is simply an extended set of HTML-tags, who's purpose, just as earlier versions, is to structure and present content, and therefore not directly to provide any sort of animations, data processing, or advanced interactivity.
The explanation behind this use of the term "HTML5", is in fact that HTML5 somewhere along the way came to imply the use of Javascript and CSS. The term was somehow misinterpreted so broadly that its meaning effectively changed and today HTML5 may imply, not only the use of Javascript, but more specifically the use of modern asynchronous javascript web architectures or libraries such as AngularJS and JQuery, and responsive webdesigns.
In this article, we have adopted this misuse of the term "HTML5".
Javascript Javascript Javascript
Javascript is the beating heart of any modern HTML5 project. Whether people like the language or not, it is undeniably both inviting for beginners as well as powerful enough for very advanced applications.
Javascript's ever expanding set of API's are well established in all common browsers and the multitude of libraries available for the language, serves as a testimony of high maturity.
Approaching two decades in age, Javascript has evolved unlike any other scripting language due to its monopoly-like status of the browser world. And so, rather than by deep intellectual thought, Javascript, its API's and common practices, has been shaped by a massive global trial and error effort, which has amounted to a nearly incomparable degree of practicality. Javascript is shaped for getting results in the short run as well as the long.
On Elance, Javascript is the second most stated scripting/programming skill. On github, it is the most used language in 2014. On a global scale of code commits, to opensource project repositories, openhub.net calculates Javascript as the 4th most active language with a highly stabile positive trend. As such, when it comes to the acquisition of developer resources, Javascript appears as a nice and safe choice, well suited for long term investment.
Responsiveness
On the subject of modern HTML5 websites, there will certainly often be an expectation of "responsive" web design, meaning that the website layout will readjust to any screen whether it would be, phone, tablet or desktop.
This may be a very time-consuming task to get right, To help you get around that hurdle, there are many helpful frameworks available:
Twitter Bootstrap
Foundation
Zimit
Such frameworks provide components, scripts and style sheets to help you easily build and structure a responsive website with a modern look and feel.
Native Apps and Portability
HTML5 is as cross platform and portable as it gets.
Not only is it supported by all modern browsers on all platforms but further more, you can create actual executable applications for all the major platforms both mobile and desktop.
Mobile Apps
On the mobile side, there are several excellent frameworks which helps you build an HTML5 app with a "native application" look and feel. Most notably:
Ionic framework
onson-ui
chocolatechip-ui
However, in order to turn, what essentially is still an HTML5 website, into a distributable app, an executable components to interface with the operating system is required.
Enter Apache Cordova, an open source project formerly of Adobe, donated to Apache for care-taking. This piece of software can be compiled for all major mobile platforms. It features a full screen web-view in which the HTML5 site is displayed and makes available an extendable API to allow the HTML5 site to access GPS, camera, disk and much more via Javascript.
In less technical terms, to turn, what essentially is a website (with the look and feel of an app), into an actual app, it must be packed alongside Cordova. Cordova will then be the executable of the app, who's job it is to display the "website" and to be its link to the operating system.
Desktop
For desktop environments, the concept is very similar. In Cordova's place, is node-webkit. Just as Cordova, node-webkit is responsible for rendering the html5 content and to be the link to the operating system. Node-webkit however, combines two pieces of independent cross platform software in order to do what it does. Namely Chromium (the project which the Chrome browser is based on) for displaying the content, and NodeJS (which we will expand on later) for interfacing with the OS.
Note: For those in need of having their desktop app published on the Mac AppStore, would find the MacGap project interesting.
Server Side
So far we have only been looking at the client side, the part that the user sees and interact with. However, on the server side, things no longer need to be that different. With the brilliant and powerful NodeJS API, it is possible and sensible to base also the server side (backend) on Javascript. NodeJS is build on top of Chromes impressive V8 Javascript engine, which provides a highly competitive performance in comparison to all the more established server side scripting languages.
As mentioned previously, NodeJS provides a link between Javascript and the operating systems through a multitude of API's and with an open package manager called npm that allows one to download further NodeJS packages for all sorts of purposes.
NoSQL and Data Transfer Formats
NoSQL has gained massive popularity over the past 5 years and appears to have found a soulmate in HTML5.
One of the interesting advantages of NoSQL is that it minimises the amount of work necessary for doing data transformations and repackaging, when data goes from the client side to the server server side database and back.
This advantage however require that you are consistent in your choice of data representational format and choose one to fit your choice of NoSQL database.
For instance you should choose:
JSON with MongoDB
JSON with CouchDB
XML with MarkLogic
XML with eXist
Once you get to work with an architecture like this for the first time and you see how effectively an object can be constructed on the client side and passed all the way to the serverside database (and back, for that matter) without there be a need for any changes, conversions or repacking at all. It is not to be understated how much work can be saved in such details.
Conclusion
In conclusion, given the right circumstances and a clever architect, HTML5 is a rocketship! The possibilities of sharing and reusing code is unlike anything else out there. The possibility of a common codebase between website and a multi-platform app will cut down development costs tremendously for projects requiring such broad establishment. And to take a step further, the possibility of having NodeJS on the backend allows the clever engineer, to reuse code even as far as on the backend.
Compared to the traditional technologies and methods of software development, “HTML5″, and the technologies that sprouts in its vicinity, minimises most of the tedious tasks to an extreme degree, leaving the developer focused on implementing the core logic required.
