I made a text post I couldn’t stop thinking about, so this happened.

[id/ Ral kneels to the ground and sets a roomba on the floor, a knife taped to it. He is wearing a mischievous smile and saying "be free, my child".

anyway if i could write RAVNICA! the musical, i'd reframe the rtr story to be equally from jace and ral's perspectives to make the audience sympathize with both of them (ral can still be the selfish prick he was Back In The Day but we know he's a good person now so we can make him less of a villain and more of an ambitious dude desperate to get what's best for his plane and himself) and genuinely not know which is deserving of winning in the end

im very torn on whether i want to be closer to following canon that they don't actually meet until the maze but keep missing each other. during the show, they have a duet from different locations to show that their motivations and desires really do align but then when they finally meet and there's a reprise they just completely misunderstand each other bc of the stakes of the situation and their personal problems and just Being The Way They Are so we know that in reality they could get along but they're against each other instead. when they try and kill the only ally they both really could have had it's tragic and dramatic irony until jace does the whole group mind meld and is like "aw fuck" and they have a Moment of Clarity but it might just be that -- just a moment -- because jace becomes the guildpact and ral has lost.

instead, they keep running into each other and are Bitter Rivals. keep the general shape of them hating each other for the reasons they do, but we sprinkle in the project lightning bug moment of jace admitting to ral that he can't remember his home and ral admitting to jace that he's the only other planeswalker he knows and how much he hates being one because he thinks niv will eat him and *bonding* but they *can't* because only one of them can win. they care for and hate each other for the same reasons. they can't agree on what's best because they both need to save ravnica and its tragic for us and the characters when they try and kill each other in the maze because they're just both so desperate to do what they need to for ravnica and then afterwards the fallout and aaaaa
