what no, i totally didn't forget about this months prompt until the last minute...

Zea had wanted to do something nice for Emmrich ever since the dinner in the Necropolis, so she came up with the idea of a sunset dinner along the beach in Rivain. She’d pack a picnic dinner (with Lucanis’s help) and smuggle it over to the Lords’s encampment the day before. Then come up with some reason to get Emmrich to come with her alone and they’d eat and talk about books in full view of the sun dipping into the ocean.

It would be romantic and they’d get an evening to themselves.

As her and Emmrich took the last steps into the enclave, she heard another roll of thunder and turned back to see the dark skies in the distance.

“It’s been threatening rain all day.” Isabella said as she slowly made her way towards the pair.

“Oh?” Zea asked, hooking her fingers through the straps of her pack.

The leader of the Lords nodded, “Some dark clouds passed over this afternoon but it didn’t rain.”

Zea was silent, still looking at the sky and trying to weigh the possibility of it actually raining or not. “We’ll be fine.” she convinced herself, letting go of the pack and leading Emmrich through the encampment and towards the shoreline. “We can be back before it rains.”

Spreading out the blanket and sitting down, Zea pulled out the bottle of white wine that she’d traded for- casting a small ice spell to chill it slightly. Opening her mouth to ask Emmrich if he’d grab the glasses, before she could get out a syllable there was a bright flash of lightning followed quickly by a loud crack of thunder…and then it started to downpour.

Giving the sauce a stir before adding a bit more water, Zea heard muffled thuds and thumps coming from the second level before slow steps towards the stairs told her that Emmrich had found what he was looking for. Then the faint sound of music wafted in from the dining room.

“Some music while we work. What do you need help with?” Emmrich asked as he re-emerged back into the kitchen and started to roll up his shirtsleeves.

“The eggplant needs to be roasted before I can make the dip.” Zea pointed to the vegetable that was still sitting on the cutting board. “You always make it better than I can.”

“You flatter me.” Emmrich spotted the open bottle of white wine and the near empty glass that was behind the cutting board. “Mind if I pour myself a glass?”

“Hm? Sure.” Zea absently replied as she put the pasta in the boiling water. She needed most of her attention on it, trying to remember how long Lucanis had told her to cook it for so that it’d be ‘toothsome’ (she still didn’t understand what that meant, but didn’t question the Crow’s directions).

Soon the smell of cooking eggplant filled the space and Emmrich gave the spice cabinet a look, trying to find the za’atar. Finding it, he sprinkled in a little and gave the vegetable a stir, hearing the sizzle as it softened. “Any flatbread dear?” He asked after carefully putting the eggplant into another bowl to start mashing it.

Zea Laidir let out a yawn and rubbed her eyes, trying to stay awake while reading the book that Emmrich had given her. But it was late and she'd spent the day running supplies around Treviso, so she gently closed the book with her finger between the pages so she didn't lose her spot.

"Just five minutes and then I'll get up to go to bed." she told herself while closing her eyes and leaning back on the chaise lounge that had appeared in Emmrich's study once she'd started spending more time there.

Emmrich walked into the library and paused, seeing Zea on the lounger fast asleep with her finger marking her book. Letting a soft smile appear, he softly made his way over to the desk- setting down the parchment he'd been making notations on before gently making his way to where Zea was. Ever so gently he took the book from her grasp, slipping in a spare page minder so she'd be able to pick up where she left off later on, before setting it on the table not far from the chaise lounge.

A/N: Halfway done! Takes place during the game and mild spoilers for some of the events. Also background Neve/Lucanis.

Someone was cooking in the Lighthouse.

Neve knew it wasn’t Lucanis or Bellara, because Lucanis had been with her the entire time and Bellara poked her head out of her room to ask what smelled so good when she stepped out to see what was going on. Mindful of the gaps in the stepping stones, she walked towards the dining hall- reaching the door as Harding bounded out.

“The Professor made dinner for us!” Harding exclaimed with her usual cheerful energy.

“He did?” Neve raised an eyebrow, because as far as she knew he didn’t know how to do anything besides make tea.

“Yeah! It’s almost ready so come sit at the table!”

Neve stepped inside the dining hall and saw that Rook had beaten them to it. Then she saw the table settings; two plates set across from each other, two glasses at each setting- presumably for wine and whatever else was being drunk, candles set between the plates. Raising an eyebrow as she sauntered to where Rook was while casually asking, “Special occasion?”

Rook glanced at Neve as she sat down, stiffing briefly at the question, “Why would you think that?”

“Two plates, the candles…Emmrich cooking.” Neve replied as Harding and Taash brought over the rest of the flatware for everyone while Bellara asked if Emmrich needed any help carrying the food to the table.

“Nothing special.” Emmrich called out, possibly too quickly, as he handed Bellara the dish of shakshuka that was still slightly simmering. “Just wanted to make some of my favorites from Nevarra for everyone.”
