It's so interesting to see the difference between how the Dutch and American teams are represented in their countries media. The Dutch have all these fun video's with Zapsport, media outlets (NOS, Nu, AD) and on their own Youtube page. I see nothing like that from the American team, some interviews yes but they are all pretty serious, can't imagine seeing them throw a block of cheese to win a Teddybear, i personally like the Dutch approach more and apparently it gets you pretty far hahaha
😂 The games they do with Zappsport completely crack me up, I love them. Kika was particularly good at the cheese throwing (sliding?) she was so happy when she won the cuddly lion! They do a lot of really fun, silly stuff that make them so likeable as well - and I know it's technically aimed at kids but I think they're great! Between them and the Onze Jacht videos you get to see/know them so much better - even if you don't understand what they're saying all the time...
It's interesting because I feel like the US used to do a lot more fun videos - the visit to Alnwick Castle with the broom racing and the golf challenge from the 2012 Olympics leap to mind but they don't seem to have done anything like that this time. It does make it seem like they're being presented in a very different way but I don't know if it's just that their media people aren't as good as the Dutch.
I don't know if you watch it but there is a Dutch kids series called zapsport who make fun video's with the players. Funniest thing is that the presenter who is a real goofball always goes to the press conference and asks a question, the girls see him coming and start laughing but the translator just treats it like a serious question. At the last press conference he was the one asking if he could have the ball and in who their roommates where, it was so funny hearing the serious translation.
Oh I love the Zappsports videos - I obviously don’t understand much of what he’s saying but all the games he gets the players to do are really funny.
I remember watching that press conference and thinking it must have been him (loved Viv’s answer about getting up 5 mins before breakfast) and then in today’s video there he was asking it! You’re right, it does sound funny through the translator. I think it must be nice for the players though, so much of the press conferences are so serious/boring - he adds some humour to the whole thing.
