Halfway across the world, Rhys bit back a grin. She knew, and Zathe knew, that the text hadnāt meant to be sentā it was unthinkable. Zathe, being concerned? She might as well start beginning to believe in coffee.Ā

Ā Ā Ā Ā ā© text. elitist ļ½... Donāt break your leg.Ā Ā
It went without saying that she arrived back in the flat with a broken leg and a bloody smile that spoke novels about where sheād been and who sheād met, so it fell to Zathe to catch Rhys when she tripped into the flat via window.Ā āI specifically told you,ā hissed, masking the growing amount of concern that threatened their monotone facade.Ā ānot to break your leg. And what did you do?āĀ
āI broke my leg,ā she respondedā the mild amusement was a coping deviceā and gingerly adjusted her arm around Zatheās shoulders.Ā ābut it wasnāt on purpose.āĀ
āThatās new.ā It was wearisome, sometimes, dragging out the bandages and the splints and the disinfecting alcohol every time Rhys came home, but lately she was coming home more often. It wasnāt likely that Zathe was going to complain about it.Ā
āI knowāā the mafioso tried to sit up, and she gently pushed her back down so that she could work without interference.Ā āāyou also told me to come back safely, right?ā
ā...āĀ
āIt was cute.ā
āIām not cute.āĀ
Rhys sat up, but the pain that shot up her leg forced her back down this time.Ā āYouāre never going to win this argument.ā It was met with muted exasperation from the assassin at her side, who gave the bandages another sharp tug. The wound didnāt involve fire, this time, but she suspected that it would the next time. Until there isnāt a next time, she thought suddenly, but immediately discarded the thought.Ā
āIāve already won,ā Zathe replied, curtly, instead.Ā āIām not cute, and youāre not going to be walking for a while with that leg.āĀ
āAināt that a shame? Means youāll have to carry me to my room.ā It followed, then, that she didnāt expect the other girl to sweep her off the couch and down the hallways. The path was unfamiliar; she hadnāt slept in her own room since last year, before Bangalore.Ā āHeyāā
The two of them tumbled onto the same bed and they blinked at each other for a few seconds, not daring and not believing.Ā āā ... what?ā at last, albeit hushed and still forced monotone.Ā
It took a second for Rhys to adjust herself, quick so that the moment didnāt slip through her fingers, and she ended up stretching herself languidly across the other.Ā āWould you look at that? I canāt move, suddenly. Itās like breaking my legās got me sleepy, or something.ā
Just like a cat, Zathe thinks, and that thought alone is just enough for her not to push Rhys off.Ā āI have to get up early for a hit tomorrow.āĀ Ā Ā
āMm. No.āĀ
