I remember the first time I looked at him, and I thought, OH he looks safe. Radiates safety. And then he opened his mouth and growled “human” and brandished his claws, and I thought. Oh holy shit. That sounds... a lot... like Starscream?! And I did a quick google search and went “THAT’S STEVE BLUM BABEY!!!!!” And I got even MORE excited!! And then you were like “hello you’d like this character” and I was like “UH-HUH.”
I’ve always associated him with the feeling of comfort and safety, warm hugs, soft smiles, all that nice stuff... and I think the phrase “I’ll keep you safe” stuck with me, and then I think somewhere in the second season Yumyan says a line “we promise to keep them safe” or something similar, and I was like OH THAT’S IT THAT’S OUR SHIP NAME!! I remember worrying a lot about him every time he’d go on some sort of mission, especially with the snakes. And the third season hurt me TERRIBLY but I will protect him from anything and everything it’s fine it’s fine we’re fine.
Fun fact!! Our ship name was originally going to be something like “You’re one cool cat!” or somewhere that like... references the fact that he wears a blue flannel, and I also wear a blue flannel, but I couldn’t think of anything haha! But I love the tenderness in “I promise to keep you safe”, it just feels right for us. ;u;
