What do you think Crimson Moon is like? He is described as a somewhat malevolent being, but some of his actions don't seem to quite add up.He is supposed to oppose humanity, yet he also helps some, like Merem.
The most base we know about Papa Brunestud is that the lunar world lost everything and then Brunestud sweet talked Gaia to seize the beautiful planet as the new territory where he'd restore his old world. From the lowest building blocks, there's untold tragedy to Brunestud's character. And indeed, he grants power to the people he takes personal interest in, and in return, receives worship-like devotion from the likes of Merem, Gransurg, or Ortenrosse.
But despite this tragedy, the systems he creates are inherently harmful to life on Earth, and he presents himself mainly as a threat to Arcueid's autonomy. The restoration of his old world comes through the collapse of the current one. Fitting for Tsukihime's intended ultimate villain, he's someone unwilling to accept the finality of things. But that part is not relevant to the point I'm trying to make.
Brunestud's indirect characterization so far shows a balance of underlying tragedy and vile acts, the faces of a savior and a despot, a benevolent bestower of power to his elite and heartless spreader of terror to his lower rank-and-file and the world that doesn't belong to his kind. Incidentally, every word description in this paragraph also applies to Ywhach from Bleach. That's my mental image of the king of the moon.
I believe Nasu certainly didn't miss the similarities between the two either. His character was updated for the remake with the addition of Idea Blood, a broken power associated with a single word that reflects the heart of the user, and is obtained by directly drinking the blood of the king. That's also how Schrifts work in Bleach. Coincidentally, there are also 27 of them. The inspiration feels pretty clear to me, and Nasu's affection for Bleach has already been proven before Gawain's really weird reference to Gin's Bankai, plus the implied comparison between Zaria and Rukia.
Anyway, Idea Bloods make me feel like I'm really on the right track with interpreting Brunestud as a Ywhach-like character.
