Dylan Mooney is a legally blind Yuwi artist from Queensland. His 2023 exhibition Still Here and Thriving portrays Mooney's experience as a member of both the Indigenous and LGBTQIA+SB (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Asexual, Sistergirl and Brotherboys) communities of Australia.

His works are digital illustrations with ink, and the skin of the figures is painted in ochre from Yuwi Country (the Mackay region in Queensland).

Man I would love to have those thighs wrapped around my head

I've made a note at the bottom of my WIP, should I ever finish it, to go and find it out (there are personal reasons why I'm not investing the effort up-front) because in my head, in my WIP's world, we didn't lose most of our indigenous language. People aren't trying to revive it from the fragments of virtually nothing.

I'm not indigenous, but I do love this place, this land where I have laid my head for the last 12 years, and I want to capture some of its heart in this WIP. If I can, I want to do a tiny piece to call to her.

There's no way for that sweater to hide what she's packing.
