Dear Yuletide Author,

Thank you so much for writing for me! I love Yuletide <3  Sorry this letter is delayed, my love of Yuletide is not enough to overcome my constitutional inability to remember deadlines.

Without further ado, my requests!  

1) Rivers of London (up through Foxglove Summer)

I’m getting the other books for Christmas so I doubt I will have read them by Yuletide, so if you could avoid spoilers for anything past Foxglove Summer that would be very kind!  But I couldn’t resist requesting RoL anyway, because I am SOMEWHAT OBSESSED.  (Also I consume it as audiobooks so apologies for any misspelling!)

Soooo I love Thomas Nightingale an unhealthy amount.  Stylish, self-possessed, an INSANE TANK-DESTROYING BADASS, with a dust-dry sense of humor and deeply buried trauma.  What’s not to love? I also like Peter although DEAR GOD BOY keep it in your pants, for real.  I love their relationship, how seriously Thomas takes his responsibility to Peter as his ‘master’, how exasperated Thomas is with Peter’s experiments (and tendency to only use his brain to make pop culture references).  

Ship-wise: I love gen, I like Peter’s love interests (except the jazz vampire, I forget her name) but would prefer a story not focus on his relationships, I personally ship Thomas/Varvara secretly in my heart.  I haven’t read any Thomas/Peter but am willing to be convinced!

Things I love: Thomas being a badass, other people talking about how much of a badass Thomas is, master-apprentice dynamics, protectiveness (going either way), Thomas’ adventures pre-RoL, Peter please stop telling people you’re a wizard I’m begging you, daily life in the Folly, Molly and Toby, cop talk

Things I DNW: the usual (rape/non-con, permanent major character death).  Canon-typical violence and gore is fine. 

2) Dracula

Yes I’m basic and am on the Dracula daily train, sorry not sorry.

So I read this when I was much younger and didn’t really engage with it on a Fannish level, so I’m absolutely delighted by all the tumblr discourse surrounding dracula daily.  Seeing fans talk about this book from 1897 the way they talk about Supernatural is just so weirdly charming to me, so really I don’t have any specific requests re: characters/plot/etc, but I would love to see some old-fashioned fanfic, if that makes sense.  Shipping trash, h/c, crossovers, AUs, meta, songfic, bodyswap, genderswap, sex pollen, soulmate, etc -- everything you would ever see on a cliche bingo card.  (I’m an Old Fangirl, sue me) What kind of fic would get written if this book had come out in 2005?  Or 1995?  (Honestly that goes for any of these requests, I love this stuff)

If that doesn’t float your boat, no worries!  Things I would love: OT3/4/5/+, Jonathan and Mina OTP 5EVA, the Suitors having adventures, Everyone is Poly except Dracula, Everyone Is Poly Including Dracula, what-ifs (Lucy vs Mina, Mina vs Jonathan, etc.), Victorian sensibilities, Victorian sensibilities being absolutely wrecked, train travel, boat travel, horse travel, gothic atmosphere

No DNWs for this -- if you want to lean in to the Darker Elements, go for it.

3) Teixcalaan Series

Again apologies, I haven’t read Desolation Called Peace yet!  Waiting for Xmas. But I read Memory Called Empire and Felt A Lot of Feelings so I asked for it anyway.  (If you want to write something for Desolation, be my guest! But I will probably read it a week late haha)

Most of all I loved three things in MCE -- the authenticity of Mahit’s cultural dislocation, the imago system and all its ethical chaos, and Yskandr the Disaster Bisexual.

Mahit’s experience of being obsessed by Teixcalaanli culture yet knowing she will never truly be inside of it, that her command of language/reference/metaphor will never be equal to a native, that she is always physically marked as different -- I relate on a lot of levels (from ‘child of immigrants’ to ‘adolescent weeaboo’) and it’s captured so powerfully in MCE.  I’d love some more investigation of that, either through Mahit (pre or post MCE) or someone else.

The imago system is just so amazing and fucked up.  I’d love to see it when it works correctly!  Or when it becomes more well-known outside Lsel station -- what a bombshell to drop on basically every other society!

But my true love is Yskandr, who was told ‘make them love you’ and heard ‘make love to all of them.’  What on earth was his relationship with the Emperor like? How did he get involved in that to begin with? What was his early time in the City like? I can just imagine how much he loved being the ‘barbarian’...he’s such a strong character despite being so distant for most of the book.  His death in front of his also-lover, who didn’t love him enough to save him... *cries for Yskandr again* The pieces we get of him are nowhere near enough!!  

4) Paint Your Wagon

I grew up with this movie and WHY DIDN’T THEY ALL END UP TOGETHER?? It bothered me even as a kid lol.  So my one true request here is for some OT3, where they all realize that you only get one life, do what you want.  (Some gay awakening from Ben and/or Pardner would also be delightful...)  OT3 negotiations? Do they move somewhere else, try to hide? Or live out-and-proud somewhere even more lawless than No-Name City?

But if that doesn’t scratch your itch, I also just love No-Name City.  It’s one of those places that’s basically a character in and of itself.  Any and all stories, both before and after the Tunnels, would be delightful!  How did the ‘French tarts’ react to their abduction?  What’s the deal with the preacher and his wife?  I’ve also always had a soft spot for Willy, who sings ‘They Call The Wind Mariah’ -- I love the ‘flashy gambler with a soft heart’ archetype!

Anyone want to plan out/trade nominations? (Yuletide, for anyone unaware, is a fic exchange for rare fandoms--or any fandom that has less than 1000 works on AO3*)

I was thinking of nominating the Spymasters series by Joanna Bourne, but also Ponniyin Selvan (2022), and would have space for another fandom? Anyone have any suggestions/requests?

Also, for Ponniyin Selvan, I was tentatively planning on nominating: Nandhini, Kundavai, Aditya Karikalan, Vandiyadevan (Trying to pick characters that would have enough of an arc after the first movie to prompt fic, but open to switching it up if anyone has better suggestions!)
