Thoughts on Indian Mythology (2)
Murakami’s essay
When I was introduced to the ancient Indian idea of "yugas" (four periods), it reminded me of an essay I read a long time ago by Haruki Murakami.
This is because Murakami grasped from his very early boyhood that there is no such thing as fairness in this world, that is, that it is natural for this world to be unfair, and so he was able to survive the hardships of life without much of an inflection. This was because he talked about the division of the "four seasons" as a quote.
According to Mr. Murakami, "Spring, summer, autumn and winter alternate in a yearly cycle. If the cycle of the four seasons were to come in tens or hundreds of years, people born in late autumn and early winter would end their lives knowing only the dark, cold, harsh winters and never experiencing the pleasant spring and the liberating summer. Life should be completely different depending on when you were born. It is most efficient to live your life according to your natural resources rather than comparing each other on fairness or unfairness.”
When I read this, I was quite convinced, and I have never forgotten it to this day.

Salvation-By-Calendar, Apocalypses, Second Comings, and Yugas
Pink Floyd - “Time” (2011 Remastered): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JwYX52BP2Sk
I have this old book published back in the 1920's and it gave me a eureka moment about this topic of prophecy, the never-ending fixation about the end of days. It shows a sketch of the Great 19th-Century Meteor Shower and in the caption is a verse of scripture about "stars falling from the heavens". It also has an old black n white photo of a steam engine train and in the caption underneath a passage from the Book of Daniel: "But you, Daniel, keep this prophecy a secret; seal up the book until the time of the end, when many will rush here and there, and knowledge will increase.”
"Same as it ever was." (Talking Heads lyrics from "Once in a Lifetime")

"His disciples said to him: 'When will the resurrection of the dead take place, and when will the new world come?' He said to them: 'That resurrection which you are awaiting has already come, but you do not recognize it.'”
That's saying 51 of Gospel of Thomas, a somewhat Buddhist-like or mystical version of a gospel that places emphasis on the now, the present moment. Copies of it have been found at Oxyrinchus, Egypt and near Nag Hammadi, also in Egypt. http://gnosis.org/naghamm/gosthom.html There is no salvation-by-calendar presented in the Gospel of Thomas.
While Mayan calendar mathematicians, polyester clad prophets, black rock city shamans, vague Nostradumbass quatrains, and the National Enquirer predictions for 2019 (2018, 2017, 2016, etc....) are never impressive, there are some very real apocalyptic concerns, and those are the ones we already know about and have been living with for awhile now.

How Many Yugas Are There According to Hindu Mythology?
Ever wondered about the cosmic clock that Hindu mythology talks about? Well, buckle up because we’re about to dive into one of the most fascinating concepts in Hindu philosophy – the Yugas! The Four Yugas: A Cosmic Cycle According to Hindu mythology, there are four Yugas that move in an eternal cycle. Think of it like a cosmic wheel that keeps turning, each spoke representing a different age of…
