Reno scrubbed a hand through his hair. “Speaking as a guy with crap I don’t process healthily on my best days… Carelessness makes jobs go south. It gets you killed. Or gets your partner killed.”

She stiffened at the word.

“Well,” she shot back, “good to know I only have two of those to worry about. The last one already happened.”

Reno winced.

I have quite a few works that I’ve started and never finished, all waiting for the stars to align before I can handle them again. I’m always very insecure when it comes to my writing, so please be kind — that’s pretty much always the reason why I either don’t publish anything, or I stall, or I leave things unfinished.

Well, I also have a six-year-old daughter who’s basically the Tasmanian Devil from Looney Tunes. When she’s around, trying to focus and write is like trying to meditate in the middle of a tornado.
