Times are hard and I’ve hit a wall on the Lothíriel fic and times are going to remain hard for a while (at least...) so... I’m writing a Carnistir&Tuilindien multichapter fic about the happy early years of their marriage. I swore to myself that I wouldn’t – that I would write next about the Big Things happening rather than plotless fluff and family stuff – but. fuck covid-19. I’m writing their happy years.

holy shit you guys I just finished Your spirit calling out to mine
after three years and two months of writing and not-writing it by turns.
I’ve been quietly tinkering at it for a month or so, and yesterday and today I wrote for hours, and now I’ve got a full draft for the last three chapters
There’s a fair bit of editing to do but I did it, I finished a novel-length story. I have wanted to do that for as long as I can remember. It’s a fic, not an original story but who cares, not me. I’m just happy.

We don't read fanfiction for "properly" plotted stories. We show up for the family bickering.
Thanks for the encouragement guys :) I will probably post almost all of what I’ve written, I’ll just work on transitions and so on to make it a bit less messy. And it’s definitely my goal to finish the fic and hopefully also post it by the end of the year, with the caveat that if some new and exciting health problem flares up again then it will be delayed once again.
I am finally VERY close to the end of Your spirit calling out to mine but it’s nonetheless still something of a disaster. I have written too much both in terms of the word count and the amount of detail and events I describe. There is a lot that I need to cut if I want to have some semblance of structure to the fic as a whole, and to the last two/three(?) chapters as their own little entities. I’m not great at cutting stuff out. I get too attached. But some of it really needs to go.
I know that many readers would probably like just having a lot of stuff to read, and it would feel fair to post 12,000 words’ worth of final chapters rather than 6,000 after not having not posted for nine months again... but I have JUST enough writing ambition for having completed a ‘properly’ built novel-length fic [my first ever] that I kind of don’t want to post these last chapters in the messy state they’re currently in.
But. But. Most of what I should cut for structure’s is family events and bickering between siblings, and I like those things, and my readers like those things... and they’re probably too short bits to post as their own little side fics.
So I know already that despite considering other options, I’ll probably just end up posting practically everything I’ve written, proper story structure be damned. It’s not like anyone else besides me cares much about that anyway.

I found a perfect look for Tuilindien. Carnistir was more difficult. I imagine him wearing, even for special occasions, austere clothes with only subtle details, but of course made of exquisite, rich materials with the highest crafts(wo)manship. So the above is not a great representation, but I wanted to post something for him too for fairness’ sake, lol.

Haha thank you for letting me know! This is the kind of reaction I was hoping for. What I feared was people thinking ‘oh no, she’s needlessly dragging it out even more, shouldn’t it be over by now…’

Carnistir and Tuilindien have an important event in the next chapter (which I will hopefully be able to post later this week or early next week) so I went down the rabbithole of Pinterest again looking for inspiration.
It’s important that I know in my head what they look like while I write but I’m not good at ‘imagining from scratch’ so I look for some photos that give me a starting point for visualising things. In my head, Tuilë’s dress has a petticoat or two more and the belt is a thin fabric sash, not whatever faux-leathery thing that belt in the photo is. And the embroidery/decoration on Carnistir’s coat/robe is darker, blending in more with the fabric.
