N Club : Yris
MEMBER-25 : Yris (She/Her, They/Them)
TYPE : Leafling
ORIGINAL VERSE : Pikmin
ABILITIES : Pikmin Powers (when munching Onion Samples), Pebbles Throw, Photosynthesis
TRIVIAS :
- Her spaceship crashed on PNF-404 a few years ago, and her helmet also shattered during the accident. To save her, Pikmins turned her into a Leafling, making her suffer from amnesia in the process and become a new person, Yris (which is a misinterpretation of the name of her suit model, YR-15).
- Over time, she became feral and protective, seeing herself as a Pikmin and acting as an older sibling with the others. However, everything changed when she met and teamed up with a space rescuer who came on the planet to save their crew and all the castaways who crashed too.
- While her favorite technique to attack hostile creatures is throwing pebbles, she also has a strange power involving Pikmin Onions : when she chews some sample of a specific onion, she'll momentarily obtain the same abilities as the Pikmin of the same color, which manifests with her hair changing of hue too. That's the reason why she collects and hides samples of every kinds of onions inside her braids, so she can access it anytime.
Yris is currently the last member of the N Club, until I create a new one of course. She represents Pikmin games, which I asbolutely adored for years as I deeply enjoyed (almost) every title. And adding the possibility to make your own avatar in Pikmin 4 was so cool, I HAD to make mine an official OC. Although it wasn't as easy as expected, as the personalization system wasn't that permissive in the end, so I kinda cheated by mixing facial traits and head shapes that weren't supposed to go together. And of course, the whole Leaflings lore gave a new depth to the character background, as it reminded a lot that Pikmin 1 bad ending I grew up with (with Olimar turning into a Pikmin). And well, turns out that my best friend and I discovered the entire fourth game together, with me assisting her as Player 2 by throwing pebbles : so it was clear to us that Yris was going to be the partner of some original character belonging to her who would be the game protagonist~.
As you can see, many attempts of experimented combinations occured. I was really excited about giving her the various Pikmin powers, as it felt very much like its own game mechanic ; but the actual design puzzled me for a while. I ended up prefering to choose either a round head or a pear-shaped head, but boy it was tough to decide between the two. I eventually chose the second option (as it felt a bit more original), but still mixed some details to make her expressive and still pretty wild. The final sketch and its variants were pretty convincing in my opinion! :>
