@saevio - i haven’t talked much ooc with jade but like, 1. she’s an excellent bruce.  she gets down that kinda softness with him that made me like him in the mcu.  i really love that kinda sorta conversational, self-apologetic, human tone that she takes with him, because i feel like it’s really??? realistic??? for someone with the sort of jekyll/hyde thing going on that bruce does.  I RECALL JUST THE OTHER DAY a thread she did where he was talking about ‘the other guy’ and i was like, it just takes so much talent to write that sort of objectively strange dialogue into a conversation without making it sound out of place.  also i think yesterday she did an ask meme for kisses and bruce apologized before kissing raven and i was like dam #real.  also 2. she’s an excellent person.  she’s going thru kind of a tough time right now and it takes a lot of strength to share that with strangers on the internet but she has that strength.  i see a lot of posts from her too that are just like ‘hey everyone just so you know you’re all unique/loved/talented/whatever hope you have a nice day/night/week’ and i always just kinda feel warm and fuzzy abt seeing that kind of positivity on my dash so often.  i really value having that.

SLAMS ENTIRE BODY ONTO THE INTERNET BECAUSE FUCK. listen teenagers are supposed to be assholes. if most fifteen year olds got some sort of physical enhancement/powers/ whatever else ( ON TOP OF THE FACT THAT PETER WAS ALREADY INCREDIBLY INTELLIGENT ) they wouldn't think ' oh man i will use these powers to help people '. even after ben dies that could have just as easily been the turning point where peter decided to keep his powers a secret & tell no one & be content with doing well in gym or something... but instead he makes a doofy costume ( that he thinks is the literal coolest thing in the world ) & swings around with webs he made himself when he could have just... been content. 

anyone who says that this isn't the result of good parenting is wrong because even a good person might not want to do this. may & ben heckin' raised this boy to not only be good, but also want to do good. they made him see the light in the world when it would be so easy to see the dark! i mean he could be so angry ! he doesn't have many friends, he's been bullied, he's lost so much... but they just... they had to have played such a big part in keeping him from letting that darkess eat him alive. even with him wanting to be good / do good he is still so soft too??? like god he loves them so much & he just loves in general so much & people don't just love things like that. like anyone can preach about the good in humanity but it's so hard to actually want to find it & peter wants to find it because he's seen it in them.

well . all in all i think it’s a culmination of reasons ??? that for the most part ben would absolutely say was cosmic in the end, because he truly feels that all along peter was meant to be their’s, and things were meant to fall into place how they were ( though he’s never meant that in disrespect of his late brother, obviously richard should have been first in line to be peter’s father, but if things were going to go how they went, he’s glad he was there to pick up the pieces).

i think the first obstacle was waiting for the right time, because, in all honesty, is there ever a right time? they’ve never been particularly well off financially though, and they wanted to make sure they had a cushion before they jumped right into having kids. they wanted things to fall into place, but between student loans, trouble nailing down jobs, and the expenses of living in the city, that time where things felt all in line and ready to go just never came.

so they stopped waiting. they were mature enough to realize that they could make perfect, they didn’t have to wait around for it. so they tried, but to no avail. but sometimes, there’s a line that has to be drawn, and a time you have to acknowledge that things don’t always fall into place like you want them to. fertility is a tricky thing, which didn’t mean they had to forfeit perfect, they’d just have to look around a little bit harder for it than their friends.

but overall i think it was just a line of bumps in the road that ended in wondering if it was too late for them. there’s a reason they were always so eager to let peter come around and stay with them when richard and mary were off working: it was easy to forget sometimes that he didn’t live there permanently. he wonders if things would have fallen into place as well if they’d had kids before.

in the end even tho they didn’t have kids, they were still around kids (which sounds creepier than it is i m realizing i). you can bet may and ben were the people volunteering for parks and rec events, babysitting for any neighbors when shifts worked out, and listen if u think there wasnt a span of time ben did piano lessons ur Wrong. basically, their not having kids feels like something complex, because after peter, its clear they’re suited to parenting and have enthusiasm for it.

 overall, it was just a series of bumps in the road, and things never working out how they hoped they would.

but make no mistake, though perhaps they were longing, there was no overwhelming sadness in the parker household over any of this. even without children, ben and may had a fulfilling and happy life. they had their dogs, they had their hobbies, they had each other, which was frankly enough.
