Your Light

As we continue, I will send songs that I feel fit the Re:Kinder characters. Next on the list is Ryou Shimoya. The healer of the game, and also the one who is hardest for me to nail down. I see Ryou as the best friend character. The bro character. The guy who tries his best, even though he is in way over his head. I'll be honest, when I started writing the story, I wasn't sure what I was going to do with him. But then I took a leap of faith and found something that I felt could fit his character and his relationship with Shunsuke. While it is true that Shunsuke saves him twice, we technically start the game with Ryou saving him from Zombie Mami (Zamie?) Despite that, one of my goals with writing this story was to give every character a moment to shine. Not just Shunsuke and Yuuichi, who have the most defined family dynamics (and even then, Shunsuke's is wrapped in mystery). But something that caught my eye with Ryou is that, despite his silliness, he does say something interesting about his parents. While we know only some things about his Mom. And his Dad is never mentioned. I do believe that Ryou's Mom might have cyclothymia. Which is basically a milder form of bipolar disorder, characterized by frequent mood swings with depression and mania. My only real evidence for this is the fact that he describes his Mom as being tired and sad during the morning, but fine after school. Judging from what we know, I think it's safe to say that this happens frequently enough that it likely gives him a very chaotic cycle. Which I imagine is very confusing for him. Since we don't know a lot about his Dad, I made up a lot of stuff for the story. Which I'll keep close to my chest for when I actually post the chapter. But this brings me to the song! I decided to go with Your Light, a cut song from Epic: The Musical. This song originally was Polites' song before it was replaced with Open Arms. The song is basically about him telling his friend that he'll be there for him whenever he needs him, and I felt the dynamic presented offered a sweet perspective into the friendship he and Shunsuke share (espescially since Shunsuke is the most visily distraught whenever Ryou dies in either version of his death), and it also gave me a sweet idea for his backstory that I'll probably use in a futute chapter. Anyway, I hope you guys give it a listen and tell me what you think. If you have any songs that fit Ryou, do share them. But also, give me your thoughts on the character since I feel he is the most looked over out of all the characters in the cast, despite him being someone that Shunsuke would be pretty attached to...
