I am currently reading this book and have been enjoying it very much so far. It's called "The World: A Family History of Humanity" written by Simon Sebag Montefiore. I have already read his book about the Romanovs- although I had no interest in the Romanovs at all. But his writing style makes it read like a novel and so is this book about the history of humanity.
It is quite a chunk with around 1500 pages, you can barely hold it- so e-book recommended in this case. ;)
And reading these stories about famous families where people killed their spouses, own children, siblings, parents etc etc honestly makes you think how humanity was able to fuck everything up on this planet right from the beginning. It's cruel.
I am only 200 pages in, but I can recommend it to everybody who is interested in history.
