There were so many times I wanted to tell you, Javert. Post-Seine established relationship fluff/angst Valvert working out their relationship fic. Hope you enjoy? ^_^
Lord knows it had taken a long time- a very long time, and with many setbacks along the way- but here they were, Javert and Valjean, in what you could call a ârelationshipâ. Â For the first time in the many months since Valjean pulled him, breathless and broken, from the Seine, the many months they had spent, first in silence, then talking, healing, and finally learning that love could spark in the most unexpected (and yet, somehow completely inevitable) places, they were in a relationship. It had all the hallmarks of one, and as they sat across from each other at the small kitchen table, Javert felt emboldened to extend his arm and hold Valjeanâs hand in his, seeming to any theoretical onlookers as if this was the most natural thing in the world, but to the internally trembling and eternally unsure Javert, this was a gesture of great magnitude, and Valjean knew this, and clasped Javertâs hand in his own like one would a most precious gift. Valjean gave a warm smile, hoping to further validate his partner in the gesture.
âJavert, mon amour, we have known each other for so long and yet you are so hesitant, always.â He said, kindly, with no trace of resentment.
Javert shivered slightly at the term of endearment. It was still so new for him to hear such words and he wanted to soak them up and keep them inside him forever, to warm his heart whenever he felt in danger of being consumed by the blackness that had grown to a crescendo that night on the Pont au Change. But he did not show this outwardly, he simply stroked Valjeanâs hand with his thumb, almost imperceptibly. Javert was an enigma, never really showing what he felt on the inside, even with someone such as Valjean, someone to whom he had willingly given his trust, willingly given the ability to break his heart. Maybe that was the reason for his hesitation. He was not sure how to reply.
ââŠIt was a great measure easier to hate you than to love you, Jean.â He said eventually, casting his gaze away from the other man. âIt was uncomplicated. You were the convict and I hunted you.â
Valjean caught his gaze and looked at him pointedly, as if to say, I think you know it has always been complicated between us. Javert carried on.
âAnd even now when you take care to tell me every day of your adoration⊠I cannot bring myself to fully believe it. I wonder what changed. I wonder if you simply wish to protect my feelings, for I know you are a caring man⊠I wonder if you truly mean it.â He said quietly. Â
Valjean looked at him with a sad smile, and brought his other hand up onto the table to grasp Javertâs corresponding one.
âOf course I mean it, Javert, but I can see how you may have doubts when there is so much you donât know about the feelings I harboured for you in the past. If you did, you would know that there has not been much of a change at all. If you did, you would know there have been so many times I wanted to tell you.â
Javert looked at him with glistening eyes, and Valjean wanted to spring to wipe his tears but he did not. He knew they had to talk about their past, a subject they had mostly avoided other than Valjean assuring Javert that he had put it behind him. Javert spoke softly.
âWhat do you mean?â
âDo you remember the first place we met?â Valjean asked.
âYes, and I would rather forget it, as Iâm sure you would.â
âIt is true that I did not enjoy Toulon.â He said with a bitter laugh, âBut I could not forget it if I wanted to, because I could never forget a moment of my life when you were there.â
Javert looked away from him.
âI am ashamed about those times. You were treated terribly there, Jean. You cannot possibly say you have any fond memories of me back then. You cannot possibly tell me you loved me then.â
âMaybe not love,â Valjean conceded. âBut admired you, yes. And I think you admired me, too.â
âAdmired you. Watched you every day. Clandestinely. Illicitly.â
âI knew that you watched me. But I watched you too. A lot.â
âYou cannot have felt anything but bitterness towards me. I was part of the system that kept you there.â Javert said quietly but harshly.
âI cannot lie. I felt bitterness towards you. Hatred, even.â
Javert nodded. This he could understand.
âBut there was always something else, Javert. Behind all that. Toulon is not a good example. I was a bitter and twisted man back then. Once I had changed my ways, seen the light, strove to become a better person⊠Montreuil-sur-Mer is a much better example.â Valjean continued.
At the mention, of Montreuil, Javert froze. His feelings from that time still cut him painfully inside, like a frosted dagger.
âWhen I saw you again, I was frightened, yes, but also inexplicably happy, in a way. I never thought I would see you again. Something inside me stirred. And then as we grew closer⊠Javert, there is something I must confess to you.â Valjean said, taking a deep breath.
Javert was still frozen, not daring to breathe.
âIt was a painful time for me. For there I was, the respected Mayor of that town, with a loyal officer who did not know that I was the one he hunted, the one who broke parole, and I knew I could not tell him who I was. It hurt me deeply, Javert, to know that I was presenting a character to you, and not myself⊠Because I found myself, slowly, to be falling in love with you.â He said. âBut I was Jean Valjean, and I could never let myself show to you, so how could I tell you that I, the Mayor, had feelings for you? But I wanted to tell you, Javert. Believe me, I wanted to tell you.â He grasped Javertâs hands tighter in his grip. âIt broke my heart to confess to my true nature. And it broke my heart to leave.â He added quietly.
Javert stared at him, wide-eyed, and let out the breath he had been holding. Was this some kind of joke on Valjeanâs part? He searched his face, but he seemed sincere. Did he not know how desperately the loyal, lonely officer had loved the radiant Monsieur Madeleine?
Javertâs breathing was ragged now, sharp, and a tear now coursed its way down his cheek. His heart felt it would burst, not only with the emotions of the past, but with the notion that his heart wrenching unrequited love was not truly unrequited at all.
âI know Monsieur Madeleine was a fiction. I know he wasnât real. But- but-â He said, through dry sobs, âI loved him, Jean. I loved him in a way I never imagined I c-could l-love.â
Valjean looked at him in concern, having never seen Javert show this degree of emotion before in his life. He kept himself stoic at all times, but at the mere mention of Madeleine he had become a wreck.
âAnd then I found out that man I loved was a fake. A lie. A f-fabrication.â
âNo. No, Javert. It was me, donât you understand? It was not what you wanted to hear back then, but itâs what you need to know right now. Madeleine wasnât a fake, in the sense that I really was trying to be a good man, and I really did love you, as Madeleine, and as myself⊠I didnât know you felt the same. Forgive me. Forgive me, Javert.â Valjean said desperately.
Javert didnât reply. He was in a state, and Valjean knew he needed to take bold action. Without another word, he sprang from his seat and swept Javert from his, into a crushing embrace, one more frantic and tight and visceral than ever before. He let Javert cling to him for dear life, and slowly felt as his heaving chest became more gentle and regular, and his sobs quieted against his shoulder.
âJavert⊠mon amour.â He said softly, trying to elicit a response. âI feel I have terribly wounded you.â
ââŠNo.â Javert finally replied, shakily. âYou have not wounded me, Jean. You have healed me.â He looked up at Valjean tearfully. ââŠNow I know. I know that Madeleine was real. He was you. And you are real. And I love you, Jean, more than I can express.â
âIn that case, I have not finished relating to you the times I loved you.â Valjean said, raising a sleeve to wipe away Javertâs tears. âAnd do not fret, for I am very real, and we shall never be apart again.â He whispered, placing a kiss to Javertâs forehead.
âI apologise. I am being very foolish. And whimpering like a child. I should know better than to react in such a ridiculous way.â Javert said.
âNot at all. You were mourning for the one you thought you loved and lost. Whereas it turns out you merely loved, and lost, and found him again.â Valjean said, hoping that Javert really understood that he and Madeleine truly were one and the same.
âAnd I am thankful for the opportunity. Before I could not have said there was any other time I loved you until these recent months.â Javert said, now calmed slightly, still clinging to Valjean, wanting every part of him to be pressed as tightly as possible to the other man, never wanting to let go. âI was in love with Madeleine, at least I believed I was, and not Jean Valjean. But now I realise⊠I was in love with you. I was not in love with the Mayor, and then with Jean. I was, and am⊠in love with you.â He said, pressing a finger to Valjeanâs chest as if to emphasise his words.
Valjean could have cried himself, so happy was he, so ecstatic to know the fullness of the extent of Javertâs love for him, and the admission he gave was like him giving himself wholly, heart and soul and everything, to Valjean, whereas before he knew Javert had held parts of himself back. Javert noticed him welling up and looked at him sternly. âNo, not you as well. If you wanted to wound me, Jean, you would simply have to cry. So donât.â Javert sniffed. âAnd do be aware this is the most heartfelt speech you will ever be getting from me, so remember it well.â
This did make Valjean perk up, and he chuckled. âThey would not be sad tears, mon cher, merely happy that you can see me as the whole man I am and not in the shadow of some great love of your life.â
Javert paused. How painful it must be to know that the one you loved considered another the love of his life, when really that other was you? He suddenly felt horrible for his outburst about Madeleine and hoped he had rectified it with his epiphany.
âTell me then, when did you next love me?â
âI should like you to take a guess at when you felt we next had a connection, and see if it is the same as I am thinking.â
Javert paused for a moment. âThat night at the barricade.â He concluded, though he scarcely wanted to think of the memories of that night. âWhen you looked me in the eyes and you cut the rope around my hands. And you let me go.â He said rather shakily. âHow many times did you save my life that night, Jean?â
Valjean knew to tread carefully around this. He did not want to trigger the Seine flashbacks that were all too easy to induce in Javert.
âI knew you would know. That night when I set you free, the connection between us felt so very tangible. I said what I needed to say to you, but before you left, there is one more thing I wished I had said, Javert.â Valjean said. âI wanted to tell you that I loved you.â
âAnd you nearly did, later that night.â Javert said softly.
Valjean was taken aback. âYou remember that?â
âYes. It is all somewhat of a blur. But I remember when you pulled me out. The world was spinning and I could not hear well. But two words stick in my mind. You held me and said- âJavert, IâŠââ Javert said, trailing off. âBut you never finished the sentence. You carried me home without another word.â
Valjean gulped. âThere have been so many times I have wanted to tell you, Javert. Thatâs why I try to make up for it all every day. Thatâs why I shall tell you now.â He said, pressing his lips to Javertâs in one long, gentle kiss before simply stating- âJavert, I love you.â

Another story in my Valvert fluff series, the idea for this one was actually prompted by thepolicemanontheroof so thankyou to her for that!
Valjean brings home a stray cat. Javert does not approve. At least, at first he doesn't.
This is set after my first 2 fluff fics found here and here :D
Javert was in a good mood when Valjean got home; a rare occurrence indeed. He wasnât sure why, and usually it irked him to have his companion out all day handing alms to the poor, even at his more advanced age and in the bitter cold of the Paris streets when it canât be good for his health and is entirely unnecessary- (Javert was undeniably worried about Valjeanâs wellbeing, but it was not as though this was something he would ever admit to him.)
But on this day, odd a circumstance as it may be, he felt good. Maybe not cheerful, that may have been a stretch too far for the Inspector, but fine, and fine was good enough.
Valjean came in through the door, noisily shutting it and kicking off his boots, but conspicuously not removing his large overcoat.
âJean, welcome home.â Javert said, going to join him in the doorway- until his good mood immediately vanished out of sight when he saw what the other man was concealing under the coat.
ââŠJean. What is that.â Javert said, taking a step back and eyeing the small creature in Valjeanâs hands with suspicion and distrust, like it was some kind of dangerous beast.
âThis little dear?â Valjean asked, looking up at Javert with a nervous grin. âWell, I simply found her, all on her own-â
âIn the streets? The dirty, diseased streets?â Javert shot back, cutting him off.
âSheâs not diseased! Sheâs perfectly healthy! Just a little underfed, thatâs all, but we can soon counter that.â Valjean said, holding out the animal towards Javert, who recoiled.
âNo. No, Jean, put it back right this instant. Who knows where it could have been!â
âOh, come now, Javert. Look how adorable she is! I couldnât have just abandoned her!â Valjean said, pouting like a small child.
Javert observed the animal. A cat, a small grey one, with a skinny frame. It looked at Javert rather forlornly and let out a soft meow. Javert sighed in exasperation and looked back to Valjean.
âJean, I do wish you wouldnât keep bringing in lost creatures you find in the streets. It does seem to be a habit of yours.â He said, glancing up at Valjean, who ignored the remark and went to set the cat down on the couch.
âWell, I want to keep her. Besides, Iâve already named her. I think I shall call her Camille.â
âWhy?â
âIt is a pretty name, for a pretty cat. Oh, sheâs pretty, isnât she?â Valjean said, turning to the cat and scratching it behind the ear.
âJean, you are acting like a child. We canât keep it. We just canât.â Javert said sharply.
âWell, it is my house.â Valjean said, looking up at Javert with a wry smile.
âI live here too. What if I threatened to leave, would you choose that cat over me?â Javert said, well aware he was being a little dramatic.
Valjean rolled his eyes, coming over to Javert. âNow who is being childish?â He grinned at Javert, who was trying his utmost to keep a solemn and displeased expression on his face. âOf course I would choose you. But-â He said, sneaking in a kiss to Javertâs lips before he could dodge away, â-I wonât have to, because youâre not going to make me choose, are you?â
Valjean walked towards the kitchen doorway. âI will make us some tea. Perhaps you will come around in time.â He said, barely concealing his grin. Oh, how amusingly lovable Javert was when he was being stubborn. âBesides- she rather reminds me of someone I know.â He chuckled, leaving the room.
Javert scoffed at Valjean and glared at the sad little creature, right into its wide blue eyes. This was a warning look. There was only room for one of them in Valjeanâs affections.
-
Days passed and Javert tried his hardest to completely ignore Camilleâs presence, which was hard when Valjean did nothing but fuss over her, and she had developed a habit of following Javert around the house incessantly.
Javert, nearly tripping over her once again, crossed his arms indignantly and huffed. âJean, can you get the animal to stop trailing me about? I donât know what it wants from me. Iâm certainly not going to pick it up.â
Valjean, following after Camille, scooped her up into his arms and scratched her under the chin. âIs nasty old Javert not being nice to you? Well, donât worry, Iâll give you all the love you need, yes I will.â He said in that voice one only reserved for talking to pets and babies.
Javert scowled at the cat even more now, which caught Valjeanâs attention. âOh. I get it.â He said mischievously.
âWhat?â Javert grumbled.
âYouâre jealous.â Valjean chuckled. âBecause Iâve been giving all my affection to Camille.â
âJealous? Jean, donât be ridiculous. Me, jealous of a cat? Thatâs simply preposterous.â
âWell, you certainly act like it.â Valjean said, letting Camille down to the floor gently and stepping forward to grab Javert around the waist, pulling him closer into an embrace. âBut you donât have to worry,â he said in a low voice, his face so close to Javertâs now that their lips grazed together slightly, âYou always have my attention.â
Javertâs breath caught in his throat as he leaned forward into the inevitable kiss- only to be interrupted by a loud meow from Camille.
âOh, of course.â Valjean said, stepping back. âThe lady needs feeding. Come on, kitty!â He called, as Camille followed him eagerly into the kitchen.
Javert glowered at the retreating feline. He was not sure they would ever see eye to eye.
-
Valjean was always telling Javert that he should really try to get along with Camille, as she was now âpart of the familyâ or some rubbish like that. Why should he, he thought? The blasted creature had simply been brought into his house one day and interrupted everything. Things had been perfectly fine without it. Javert sighed and slumped onto the couch, not noticing that Camille was asleep on the next cushion. She startled awake and yowled at him.
âOh⊠Sorry.â Javert grumbled quietly, hoping she would go away, but instead, she moved closer to him and sat, staring at him inquisitively.
Javert exhaled slowly. Maybe he should try to be cordial towards the animal. The things he did for that man.
âSo. Camille.â He said, regarding her. âYouâre a cat. Howâs that going?â
He stopped and internally cursed himself. He was talking to a cat. This was how far he had sunk.
Camille seemed to respond well to his question though, rubbing her head up against his hand, which lay by his side, and purring gently.
âOh. Yes, I see.â Javert said awkwardly, not knowing how to deal with the cat showing him affection. âListen, Camille. We live in the same house. We both really rather adore this one particular man. We have a lot in common, I suppose. Maybe we should call it a truce.â
Camille seemed to agree, as she stood up and promptly plopped herself down into Javertâs lap, curling up on his legs and purring in contentment.
Valjean, watching from the doorway, cracked a smile as Javert began to tentatively stroke her, and continued to talk to her awkwardly.
âI have one stipulation though, Camille- ultimately, he is mine. As long as you understand that I have no doubt we shall be able to tolerate each other.â
Camille gave a meow of approval.
-
Over the next few weeks, a startling transformation seemed to occur. Javert would be the first one that Camille would go to, making a beeline for his lap whenever he sat down, and trailing around him, getting under his feet more frequently than before.
âShe really does seem to like you, Javert. Whatever did you do to her?â Valjean commented as Camille nuzzled into Javert on the couch.
âNonsense. I didnât do anything. I have no idea where this all came from. And I doubt she likes me. She merely tolerates me, and I her. It is an agreeable arrangement.â
âRight. Of course.â Valjean said, pretending he hadnât noticed Javert offering to feed her, or groom her, or play with her almost every day, taking over all the duties that Valjean used to do.
Javert was not sure how Camille grew to be âhisâ cat, but like many things in his life of late, he had learned to accept it and not question it too much. Although he conceded it was most unusual of him to be fussing over a small, sad, lost creature like this. Maybe she reminded him of himself.
âJavert, maybe you should put Camille down for a little while.â Valjean commented.
Javert looked up at him in surprise. It was unlike Valjean to implore him to be less affectionate. âWhatever for?â
âWell, I thought maybe we could have some alone time. Just me and you. Without Camille.â Valjean said, emphasising âaloneâ to make his intentions clear.
âOh. Well that can be arranged.â Javert said, tipping Camille gently off his lap as he stood up. âSorry, Camille. A dealâs a deal. You have to keep up your side of the bargain.â
Camille seemed to understand, slinking out of the room quietly.
âYou and small furry animals, Javert. Who would have thought it?â Valjean chuckled, pulling Javert closer to him in one smooth motion, in the way that always made Javert shiver.
âI must admit I do have a sort of affinity for the creature.â Javert said.
âThe fuss you made when I brought her home!â Valjean said playfully, leaning his forehead against Javertâs so their noses touched.
âI made a lot of fuss when you brought me home, too. But I came around to that decision.â Javert replied, looking into Valjeanâs brown eyes with his blue-grey ones.
âWell, Iâm very glad you did, Javert. Or where would I be now?â Valjean said, unable to stop himself from kissing Javert, who reciprocated gently.
âProbably in a house filled with all sorts of street animals.â Javert quipped.
Valjean smiled. âThereâs only one poor lost creature I need in my life. Oh, and Camille.â
Javert nearly elbowed him sharply for the comment, but instead opted to kiss Valjean again.
Fluffy little domestic type valvert fic came to me in a daydream, again I wrote it at the request of fandom forters, again just mindless fluff and I'm a bit nervous about sharing, please enjoy!! dedicated to thepolicemanontheroof for always being awesome about all my creative endeavours.
Valjean walked into the living room to the sight of Javert struggling with his boots. He watched quietly, laughing only a little as Javert let out an indignant grunt as he finally managed to slide his foot into the left shoe, standing up from the couch with a look of triumph on his face that quickly turned to one of disgruntled annoyance as he saw Valjean had been watching him. Valjean thought of making a comment on how cute Javert looked when he was annoyed, but thought better of it.Â
"Those boots are getting far too tight for your legs now. You haven't worn them since you were out on patrol." Â Valjean said with a chuckle.Â
Javert shot a displeased look at Valjean at the assertion he might be getting fatter. "Well, I'm putting them on for a good reason."
"And what, pray tell, is that?"Â
That was when Valjean noticed Javert was also wearing his, now rather old and battered, police coat. He crossed his arms and looked pointedly at the other man.Â
"Javert, where on earth do you think you're going at this time of the evening, in winter no less?"
Javert rolled his eyes at Valjean's interrogation.Â
"There is a prolific criminal, out there. On the streets of Paris. And I intend to capture him."
Valjean strode forward through the room at this, to stand before Javert.Â
"Have you lost your mind?" He exclaimed.Â
"Whatever do you mean? I am merely doing the job I have been doing for decades."
"That's exactly it, Javert. It's not your job. You're retired! There are other police officers out there now, it's their job to catch dangerous criminals, not yours!"
"None of those other police officers are half as dedicated as me. None of them have been precisely mapping the assailant's movements, and have worked out exactly where he will strike tonight."
Valjean clapped a hand to his forehead and let out an exasperated sigh.Â
"So that's what you've been doing this past week. All those secretive little scribblings."
"Well, what did you think I was writing? Love notes?"
"Maybe."
Javert ignored him and carried on.Â
"I don't have to tell you about everything I do, Jean. You're not my father."
"No, but I am your partner, correct?"
Javert was stunned into silence for a minute at Valjean's choice of term. He knew he didn't simply mean work or living partner. This was something bigger. Valjean was spurred by Javert's silence.Â
"Other half? Significant other?"
"Yes, yes, I heard you, Jean. Still doesn't mean you can tell me what I can and can't do." Javert huffed.Â
"As if I would ever dream of doing that. I'm simply worried about you." Valjean said sympathetically. "What sort of criminal is this, anyway?"
"Armed robber. Targeting businesses and homes. Just this week, a market, taverns, a bakery..."
Valjean thought of making a joke about Javert's seeming obsession for bread thieves, but decided against that too.Â
"Armed? Oh, Javert, why do you feel you have to put yourself through this? You could get hurt."
"I can't rest while there are criminals out there, still at large."
"Have you noticed, you're living with a criminal?"
"Yes, but I share a bed with that one, so I think it's a little too late on that front." Javert said with a hint of a wry smile.Â
Valjean sighed, defeated. "There will be absolutely no talking you out of this, will there?"
"I'm afraid not."
"Well, in that case you must promise me you'll be careful. I couldn't bear if something happened to you." Valjean said quietly.Â
To his surprise, it was Javert who stepped forward and hugged him first.Â
"I'll be careful. I promise."
Valjean pressed a kiss to the top of his head before he could squirm away. "
"You'd better be, you stubborn fool." Valjean murmured into his hair.Â
With that, Javert was out of his arms and out of the door.Â
It was 3am, but Valjean could not sleep. Since Javert had left several hours ago he had driven himself half mad with worry. He had found himself unable to sit still, fidgeting, pacing up and down the room, trying to distract himself from thoughts of his Inspector hurt or incapacitated. His Inspector. The notion struck him like lightning. It occurred to him that since that terrible day when he pulled Javert from the Seine, they had rarely been apart. First they were enemies, then friends, and now he thought of Javert as definitively 'his'. He wondered when that had happened. Thinking back to the years they had spent in pursuit of each other, he supposed it had always been there.Â
He sat on the bed, lit by a familiar faint candlelight, trying to read the Bible to distract himself. It wasn't working.Â
It was 5am, nearly morning, and Javert still wasn't back. Valjean, despite his best efforts, fell into a fitful, exhausted sleep.Â
It was 7am when Javert finally shuffled wearily back into the house and made his way to the bedroom, to be greeted with the rather comical sight of Valjean sprawled messily across the bed, on top of the covers, limbs in all directions, Bible on the floor and candle burned to its base. He almost didn't want to wake him up so he could admire this cheering sight, but he knew Valjean would want to know he was home, so he set about opening the curtains, slowly letting a stream of sunlight fall over the sleeping man. Valjean stirred at the sudden intrusion of light and sat up, rubbing his eyes blearily. He looked up at Javert, who couldn't help but smile a little.Â
"Javert! You're back!"
"That's right, sleepy head."
Valjean was off the bed like a shot, wrapping his arms around the other man.Â
"I was so worried. I tried to stay awake... Oh, I thought something terrible had happened! How did it go?" He said in rapid fire succession.Â
"I'm fine, Jean, though a little tired. I successfully apprehended the criminal, I'll have you know, and turned him over to the authorities." Javert said, with unmistakable pride in his voice. "Although staking him out did take longer than I anticipated."
"Well, I expected nothing less, of course. Although I do wish you wouldn't undertake such dangerous endeavours in the future." Valjean said, running his hands along Javert's snow-soaked overcoat. "You must be freezing in this coat, take it off before you catch your death!" He said, not bothering for Javert's reply before he stated removing the garment, and drawing back in shock when he saw a conspicuous red stain running along Javert's white shirtsleeve.Â
Javert saw Valjean staring at his arm and shrugged him off. "Jean, it's fine. It's nothing." He grumbled.Â
"It is certainly not nothing! You're hurt, Javert!" Valjean said accusingly, rolling up the sleeve to reveal a long cut down his forearm.Â
Javert rolled his eyes, hating any kind of fuss. "He tried to stab me when I went to handcuff him. But it's not a deep wound. It's perfectly fine."
"You could have been seriously injured! Javert, I could slap you right now if I didn't want to kiss you so much."
"Then kiss me." Javert smirked, but to no avail, as Valjean rushed to the kitchen.Â
Javert allowed him to clean and dress the wound with as little grumbling as he could muster, although some did slip through.
They sat on the bed as Valjean carefully tied the last bandage. Javert observed the dark circles under his eyes with concern. "You must've only had a couple of hours of sleep. Not that you needed to wait for me, in any case."
"Of course I needed to. How could I sleep when you were for all intents and purposes missing? Besides, you got no sleep at all, Inspector."
"Then maybe we should catch up." Javert said playfully, pulling Valjean backwards onto the bed with him.Â
Valjean laughed and wrapped his arms around Javert.Â
"Maybe we should." He said, adjusting them into a comfortable snuggling position. "You're going to be the death of me one day, Javert."
Javert raised a finger and gently pressed it to Valjean's lips.Â
"Jean, you worry too much."
Although it was daylight outside, neither of the men had any trouble drifting to sleep in the others' embrace.Â
