What good will you be putting out into the Universe today? My friend @andymanj and I are taking a roadtrip to Tampa today and we're on a mission to #BeTheGood by blessing our fellow humans with some #RandomActsOfKindness! #BeTheGood #PayItForward #PayItForwardDay #YouMightDieTrying (at Port Charlotte, Florida)
If you give, you begin to live
Yesterday, I had the sincere pleasure of lending out my garage space to two friends who live in my neighborhood. They were having a yard sale to benefit their adoption efforts. The day was a great success for them, and the generosity of the community was wonderful to see. There were no prices listed on any of the items, and were just asking for any kind of donation for help offset the ridiculous cost of adoption.Â
I was sincerely happy to lend my space out for their efforts. I know they will be amazingly loving and caring parents who will help to provide a good life to another who might not otherwise have that opportunity.
The title of this post comes from lyrics from “You Might Die Trying,” a song by Dave Matthews Band. The song starts off by challenging you that “To change the world, it starts with one step. However small, the first step is hardest of all.” This is by far true in many aspects of life. It takes a huge amount of courage to take that first step. Whether you’re out to change the world, or to change a small situation in life, that first step is the hardest to take. The song goes on to say that, “Once you get your gate, you’ll be walking tall.” Again, this resonates as true in most situations. After taking that first step and walking those first few steps in your journey, things start to fall into place and become a bit easier.
The song later goes on to proclaim that, “If you give, you begin to live, you get the world.” I find those words, however simple, to be truly profound. It doesn’t matter how large or small you end up giving, once you do, you find a deeper meaning to your own life. You begin to see the world in a better, more cohesive, and genuine harmony. This is truly hard to see in the everyday hustle and bustle of the “real world.” We must work and take that first step in order to being to walk tall to genuinely begin to live.
