[TUCHANKA] Sacred Thresher Maw’s Corpse Found Defiled
by Forsan Mira, Apex News The defiled remnants of a revered thresher maw’s corpse has been located by the conservation group Maidens of the Void in the Saryloc region of Tuchanka. The creature, known as “Ynei” and long revered for its rare albinism and protracted age, was found with its head missing, indicating that it had been poached as a trophy. “This was a despicable, short-sighted act,” MotV Revered Scientist Ravanor Bartek said in a comment to Apex News. “Ynei was a powerful symbol of resilience and aggression, surviving and flourishing in spite of its conspicuous scales and age. The idea of someone ripping its head off for some runty, pathetic wall decoration boils my blood.” The corpse’s defilement comes as a shock to the MotV as they have been searching in earnest for it since its tracking implant appeared to go offline in the Deksan Territories. Maidens of the Void, a female-led organization dedicated to the preservation of rare creatures like Ynei, has since disabled and replaced all such software on similar fauna as part of a long-standing mandate on potential technological highjacking. “We won’t be handing anyone’s navpoints to the salarians,” said Warchief Axlon, one of MotV’s specialized trackers who helped coordinate the off-grid reset. “Or the Three. Or any disgruntled CDEM vet wanting some kind of revenge.” Y’nei’s poaching has angered several krogan clans, partly because recent anatomical reports suggested she would be shedding off spores soon, and partly because decay and burial analysis indicated her death coincided with several MotV members’ attending a recent Crush of allegedly species-wide importance. Several have interpreted the death as ill portent: by working to appease the greater galactic community, they have allegedly opened themselves to attacks on their home planet. This has caused several clans to accuse the Crush of complicating their priorities. “We should not have been there,” said an unnamed female shaman speaking on behalf of Clan Murtag. “This was opportunism, plain and simple. We were distracted. We left. They killed her.”
