Oh , Yen 🖤
My most unpopular opinion is that the witcher books are really not that good. I read them and I liked the ideas they had but their execution was unbelievably dissatisfiyng in almost every aspect.
Ciri's story was by FAR the best one but even that had those moments where I hated the author for ruining the potential.
The romance between geralt and LITERALLY ALL OF HIS LOVE INTERESTS were mind numbingly boring, creepy, dumb and subtracted from the overall experience- frankly I think he should have stayed single the entire time.
Yennefer, again, was lost potential and there were times (especially in the first book) that I think the author was writing with one hand.
The ending was a 1/100, every side character deserved more/were basically cardboard cutouts and the dialogue/politics of everything made it really clear that the author had absolutely no fuckin idea on how to write these themes without coming off as really iffy. Also, he killed off characters in a way were I wasn't even sad, just annoyed that he had the audacity.
The og witcher books are some of the ONLY times were I'd say don't bother reading them over other adaptations. The comics, the games, hell even the fanfiction is a MUCH better experience all around in almost every aspect.
This is a very Netflix specific headcannon, but I refuse to believe that Jaskier does the sandpiper work with sheer luck and charm. I don't. I think his 2 conflicting lives merged in a way he never expected, and yen inadvertently threw him off his game. He would have NEVER gotten into a fight with that random man ANY other day. It was just because she was there that he was acting so dramatic. He didn't want her to see him as a multifaceted person who could both be a peacock and competent in helping others. It scared him to be seen that way and tried to hide it by falling back onto silliness.
Anyways, stan frenemies Jaskier and Yen
