Ben Kauffman, former Media Lab Intern in the Digital Media Department, Metropolitan Museum of Art, has created a fabulous new interactive installation called “MetMirror.” This digital installation uses the archives of collection photographs as pixels in a digital mirror. The effect is that a visitor's image is “reflected” in art, through a composition of collection photographs.

In Ben Kauffman’s words:

After much brainstorming, I set about making a digital “mirror”; that is, I would take the raw data of a live video feed and use it to create an interactive mosaic of images culled from the Met’s archive. This form has a rich history in interactive art, but using the Museum’s imagery created a unique historical interplay between the Met’s cultural artifacts and current Museum-goers. I wanted visitors to see themselves in the collection.

In this #yearofaudience the #MAEXcorcoran Graduate Program in #ExhibitionDesign is infusing reseach and course work with investigations into engaging audiences through Exhibition Design.
