See YOURSELF in ART @metmuseum
Ben Kauffman, former Media Lab Intern in the Digital Media Department, Metropolitan Museum of Art, has created a fabulous new interactive installation called âMetMirror.â This digital installation uses the archives of collection photographs as pixels in a digital mirror. The effect is that a visitor's image is âreflectedâ in art, through a composition of collection photographs.
In Ben Kauffmanâs words:
After much brainstorming, I set about making a digital âmirrorâ; that is, I would take the raw data of a live video feed and use it to create an interactive mosaic of images culled from the Metâs archive. This form has a rich history in interactive art, but using the Museumâs imagery created a unique historical interplay between the Metâs cultural artifacts and current Museum-goers. I wanted visitors to see themselves in the collection.
