Asher betrayed them, Laurel, in her eyes, abandoned HER, and then Oliver pulled away from her. Michaela is an expert in compartmentalizing, which is why her reaction to Sam’s death was supposed to be surprising because this woman who was so secure and confident and had all the characteristics of someone who would be able to step right into action ( which comes w/ simon later ) fell apart.  she does push people away when they get too close, and she has difficulty moving away from justifications and taking responsibility for her actions. 

Connor and Oliver have every reason to be upset w/ Michaela for getting a better deal because that’s a very human response. Connor is going to be the one person to go to prison, and the rest of them are going to effectively get away with it. ( even if most of those directly involved w/ the deaths are now dead themselves ). Originally, the two of them advocated for each other and made sure that no matter what they got the same deal, but then the FBI countered Connor’s w/ Oliver’s crimes and for that reason, the deal had to change to accommodate, while Michaela and Laurel only had themselves to advocate for. Of course they can be upset about this, but Connor was able to ensure that Oliver got no jail time, while Michaela and Laurel were able to do the same for themselves. 

Michaela has been labeled as sociopathic and cold-hearted for this ability to compartmentalize, and don’t get me wrong, it is terrifying. her ability to stand there and 100% believe that she does not feel anything about lying and cheating to protect herself because it’s what she’s been doing her entire life is heartbreaking. she’s so shut off to everything around her and absolutely is able to shut them off to keep moving forward because if she let every feeling she had in, she would crumble. she would break and she would not be able to put the pieces back together, so she shoves everything away and keeps moving forward.
