Roman Catholic Schools are bias, well maybe just for me. I am a student of a Jesuit Academy, and sometimes it is hard for me to keep up with the bias of a pure Roman Catholic School. We are forced to study CLE, which is an abbreviation of Christian Life Education. *Disclaimer* though, I am not a Christian Hater. I don’t hate the religion. In fact actually I am a Christian. So don’t get the wrong idea.Â
Anyways back to the topic, of course the school will obviously be biased regarding to religion, because as stated earlier it is a Roman Catholic Jesuit Academy. The thing though that I don’t appreciate, is that when we studied about the LGBT community, there was an obvious presence of discrimination through the lesson plan of the professors. Let me paraphrase what our professor told us regarding the LGBT community.
“It is not wrong to be a homosexual, but it is wrong to have a sexual attraction with the same sex.” Ok is it just me, or did she just contradict herself there? I hundred percent agree with her first statement. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being a homosexual, with being a transexual or even a pansexual, people have the right to their own bodies and sexuality. So anyways, I then asked my professor, what she meant, to elaborate more. So she agreed.
“The LGBT community, is a very sensitive topic, but in my opinion, it should be that only a man can marry a woman, vice versa. Same sex relationships aren’t really something I personally agree with.” Okay, so people have the right to their own opinion. I know that, but for some reason it sounded really scripted for me. So i did a little investigation of mine. I went to another class, and asked a friend of mine to ask a different professor the same thing. Apparently i guessed right. This different professor said the same thing. The exact same thing. Now that sounds really sketchy. Now you may be wondering, “Hey Yap, maybe they had the same opinions?” Well i though of that, and sure i would buy it, but the problem is, they said the same exact sentence. So it is either, the school taught them how to answer these questions, regarding the LGBT community, or the two teachers just said the same thing by coincidence.Â
Now what is the reason why i posted this? Well honestly it just annoyed me how those two professors had the same answer, and most probably was taught how to answer, not really giving their real thoughts regarding the LGBT community. I know the Church isn’t the biggest fan of the LGBT community, but I don’t really see why they have to force the mindset of being part of the LGBT community is a bad thing. Â
