âAre you sure about this?â
Koushi glances over and tries his hardest not to roll his eyes at the sight of Tadashi practically swimming in the sweater he had borrowed out of Koushiâs closet (which is probably the sweater Koushi stole from Asahi last winter now that he thinks about it) as he inches closer and closer to Koushi, staring up at the dark house in front of them.
âYes. Â Iâm sure,â Koushi answers. Â Tadashi frowns at him and inches even closer. Â Koushi takes pity and wraps his arm around Tadashiâs waist and tugs him against his side. Â âWhatâs got you so wired? Â Itâs not like this is the first time youâre following me into a house with only one light flickering eerily in the basement window.â
âI know. Â Itâs just. Â Well. Â You know.â
Koushi looks at Tadashi, really looks at him, and frowns at the unhappiness he sees on Tadashiâs face.
âI really donât, love. Â At least not right this second. Â Whatâs going on?â
Tadashiâs frown turns into a pout just before he huffs and pulls away from Koushi. Â âNever mind,â he mutters as he stomps up the sidewalk towards the dark house. Â Koushi shakes his head in confusion and follows Tadashi.
The wooden sign they pass is faded and worn but Koushi traces the lettering with sure fingers, letting the decades worth of magic in the sign twist and nip at him for a moment. Â Once upon a time it had read âBeware the Witchâ but the witch in question didnât like how evil it made them sound. Â How inhospitable it made them seem. Â Now when the light hits it just right you can almost make out the words âDonât Insult the Witchâ on the surface.
âAre we doing this or not?â
Koushi raises his brows at the sharpness of Tadashiâs voice. Â Tadashi is a few steps away and every line in his body seems to radiate tension, practically screaming to anyone around to leave him alone. Â To stay far, far away from him.
Koushi drops his hand from the sign and slinks up beside Tadashi. Â He stares at him for a few long, long moments, studying the way his eyes flicker from the house to the sky to the path back to the street and the way he has his arms wrapped around himself with the huge sweater sleeves hiding his fingers. Â
Oh. Â Itâs not worry. Â Itâs anger.
âAre you still mad about last year? Â Daichi apologized for that.â
Tadashi sighs angrily. Â âHe turned me into a pigeon, Koushi. Â A pigeon!â
âHe didnât mean to.â
âA pigeon.â
Koushi tugs at Tadashiâs sleeves until he uncrosses his arms and then he steps in close and wraps his arms around Tadashiâs neck, pulling him down into a soft kiss.
âI promise not to let him accidentally turn you into anything,â he murmurs against Tadashiâs lips.
âNot good enough,â Tadashi murmurs back. Â âBut. Â If you help me turn him into a canary? Â Well then weâll be good.â
âDeal,â Koushi laughs.
