So the artist we’ll be talking about is Focus whom you can find here on twitter !

Focus is an artist we’ve known of for years now and their artwork has inspired us greatly, only recently have we actually decided to incorporate said inspiration into our work, finally pursuing the art we actually want to make. Anyway, we can write a lot on this art work but here we will specifically talk about one type of artwork: Focus’s art which depicts Rover and Rudy from animal crossing. This art is some of the few photos online we can find which gets across what homosexuality - our sexuality - feels like to us, and how we’d hope to depict it.

Here are some examples to start us off, these three being pieces we go back to and think on constantly. These works to us paint both a look into simpler things in life and general day-to-day living which may seem mundane on the outside, but be illustrated with such care and love. The casualness almost feels deeply romantic, or transcending romance. We think it perfectly captures how we feel about love, especially gay love. We believe it is so important you not only love your partner as your partner, but also as your best friend. We believe that is more akin to what we’d hope to depict in fictional relationships, a love so casual it is as if these are two friends who share experiences with one and other they’d share with no one else.

Some more illustrations we feel deeply about, noting the one on the right for its way of showing transness in such a matter of fact nature you’d hardly think twice about the characters bodies. This not only shows love as we see it but also gender, something which transcends presentation and look.

Here are some more pieces, ones which depict very specific situations and give no context but we feel exist to be contextless. It all just relies on these two, and these two existing together. To us, the two feel so undeniably their own people that it aids in getting across the relationship. You know both these characters simply by their expression and gesture, you can tell they’re close without much pda. If anything, the love is shown through other means, thus making what is casual into something homoerotic. And what is gay love but love which expands past the barrier of what love is perceived to be. What is gay love without turning the mundane itself into an act of appreciation.

Here we have what is possibly the most noteworthy pieces to us, disjointed comic panels which paint a picture of the life the two hold together, even showing the relationship as it is outside the context of the two in it. Showing it as a three dimensional form of connection, something which does not exist to exist - as most ship content feels - but exists to tell a story, even if that story is contained in one photo. The lingering on dialog, casual conversation between others, all to get across a relationship, all to show the many sides of love.
