This is a beautiful book, telling a sad story but one that is more common than most of us want to believe, different parts of it at least. Not that I talk from experience, it’s what I hear people talk about, friends talk about, friends who come from different countries, friends who look/act/live different, friends who know drugs better than I ever have. Gifty’s story is enraging, interesting, shocking, surprising, and I was rooting for her to find her way. I nearly cried when she described how she still talked to Nana. It’s written in a beautiful and clear prose, which makes even the hard parts ‘easy’ to read … . It is also a story discussing religion and how her religious upbringing shaped (and shapes) Gifty’s past, present, and future … And this is where Gyasi lost me. People more open to topics like faith, religion, and god will enjoy this way more than I did. I’ve never been a spiritual person and it’s not a topic I’m interested in. But apart from that, I found this to be an exceptional reading experience 🤓 . . #yaagyasi #transcendentkingdom #readng #books #booksofig #instabook #booknerd #bookish #readersofinstagram #bookblog #readingtime #📚 https://www.instagram.com/p/CHGcwTrAAGk/?igshid=fy5vfrm01nk9
