when: 27 January 1982 where: the âHoliday with Hagsâ book launch party who: Alice and @sperabilisâ
Alice loved a good party, and the book launch was definitely a good party. Sheâd been a little skeptical at first, celebrating a memoir in semi-formal dress didnât exactly scream fun, but she was happy to be proved wrong. The punch by the entrance and the snacks circulating on enchanted trays were excellent, conversation seemed lively, and the dance floor was full. Alice herself had spent the better part of the night so far on the dance floor, ricocheting between it and the punch bowl and friends milling about. But there was one very important person that she hadnât seen yet, even though she knew heâd be there.
Alice was back at the punch bowl for her third, or was it fourth, cup when she finally spotted Ted Tonks. Alice loved all of her friends, and especially those whoâd been with her since her earliest days at school. But even from those best friends Ted held a special place in her heart. Ted had changed Aliceâs life when she showed up on his doorstep that awful night she ran away from home and he and his family took her in. Whether heâd meant to or not, Ted had been the one to teach Alice that there really were people in the world who could be trusted, even if there werenât any in her own family.Â
Alice usually wasnât one to dwell on the past, and although she definitely did make a habit of telling people they were important to her she didnât make a show of going on about it. But apparently, she was feeling mushy tonight. Alice carried her new cup of punch over to Ted and linked her arm with his, leaning her cheek against his shoulder. âYou are the best best friend ever.â
