“Lower your expectations” is the sign that hung above registration at XOXO this year and in the past. I think it’s a lovely motto. We can all be entitled, mean, and selfish sometimes just from the virtue of having unfounded, unempathetic, unnecessarily high expectations of others. Lowering your expectations invites openness and love. Lowering your expectations cherishes humanity and celebrates error. I always invite creatives to lower their expectations of themselves because it’s good for the heart, and it’s good practice for your fellow creatives.
