An excerpt from the opening of my new story: Celestial
The path I took towards happiness seemed destined to be sad. To ascertain the length of that sorrow or the depth of the twists would be like counting the numbers of stars in the ethereal heaven on a clear night, bordering on the realm of impossibility. But in that shade of gentle melancholy, there is also a sense of beauty in the vast sky.
On most nights, I would lay on the roof of my house, taking in the dark canvas painted over by the small yet shining glimmers of starlight. As I close my eyes, I would get the sense of extreme annihilationālike Iām the last dimming star lost in a universe full of burned out lights.
Ironic though, to think that my mother named me Soraāthe sweet, blue sky; because that was never what I am searching for. I enjoy the nighttime, bathing myself in the cool, dim light of the moon. Maybe thatās why we are destined to belong in two different worlds, separated by half a rotation of the Earth.
A celestial arrangement.
No matter how long Iām willing to wait, no one would be able to break through that thin film that separate my world from theirs. I am a lone star in this great universe.
But Iām okay with it, as long as the sliver of hope still exists in my heart. Iāll keep waiting for my own eternity.
