which sounds like a category they made up, partly because it's so specific but also partly because unless there's another weekly tv comedy panel show that started earlier and ended within the past like... 15 years? shoten would've gotten it sooner. this year is its 60th anniversary. how many other shows have lasted this long.

disney had only signed on for 2 years. streamers being streamers, you figure they were only going to keep funding a show that expensive to make if 1) they could use it to boost their own ip, or 2) it got as popular as stranger things or GoT (to be clear: this is independent of the quality of the writing). 1 wasn't an option, no matter how hard they tried to make it work by calling it "season 1," and 2 didn't happen, so things went into limbo. gatwa is too high in demand to waste time on waiting for a verdict or for the show to get funded by someone else. if disney wasn't already going to step away, losing the lead actor would've been the final nail in the coffin.

i saw that once as a kid and have never heard about it again, but that scene left an impact
