I think it's still classified as meat. Some vegans boycott honey because they say it's produced by animal slave labor...which is weird since without bees they'd loose almost everything they eat.
I have never seen a vegan ever address the use of bugs as a source of protein though. its always cute little animals like goats, sheep, cows, and chickens. Bees count as cute.
