Battles were long, they were exhausting but most of all, they were heartbreaking for more than one reason. Whether the battle was about land, territory, a race's home or whether it was about power and greed, it all ended the same; with loss on either side. And that was that. If you were to fight on either side then you were sure to lose a friend, a family member, a lover... You were sure to end up with a broken heart. And the Battle of the Five Armies had done just that. Men had lost men, dwarves had lost their own and the elves had suffered losses of their own. Nothing would be the same, each of them knew that, even before the battle had commenced, they all knew. This battle would change their fates, change their lives. And maybe not for the better.
Tauriel herself had suffered, both emotionally and physically. Yes, she had been hurt, a stain of blood red on her side was proof of that, the cuts on her cheeks and arms were battle scars she would hold for the rest of her life. Her bow was broken, daggers blunt from the orcs she had slain and her cloth was ripped, dirtied and ruined. Not that the she-elf cared in that moment. Nothing mattered to her in that moment except getting home and focusing on her daggers once more. They needed to be sharpened, her bow needed to be fixed and she needed medical attention as soon as she could muster it. But none of that would help the fact that she felt defeated, completely and utterly defeated.
Walking through the halls of the home she had known for so long, she came to a stop outside of her own chambers. Glancing inside, she stopped herself, leaning against the wall as she brought her gaze down to peer at her wound on her side. Still stinging, still sore and not fully healed. Taking a sharp breath, she frowned and finally exhaled as she undid the clasp on her armor, letting it fall to the ground with a clatter. Pulling her cloth to the side, she took another breath before frowning at not only herself but at the sound not too far from where she was stood. "Do not dwell in the shadows, Legolas. Please.."
