ok so very interesting to note that viren was drawing sky runes with his staff. i'm glad to notice this because it always bothered me that callum so frequently used his staff for ocean spells but this says a few things
either:
any "device"/"tool"/anything the mage is holding can be used to draw a rune same as a finger, which i wasn't thinking but now that i'm writing it out this does make sense
or
it's any instrument of magic, like even though it's not the right primal stone, the sky stone still works for ocean - and not exclusive to primal stones, because the staff of ziard had a quasar diamond. again after writing down the previous option i do not believe this to be true
